At Least ‘Two’ Things Looks Good for ‘The X Factor’ Courtesy Conan O’Brien (Video)

September 22nd, 2011 No comments

So it’s no secret that The X Factor got off to a terrible start last night, a start that no one at FOX could be happy with after the massive almost quarter million dollar promotional investment in the show.  Thinking that anything that Simon Cowell touches turns to gold, well there’s no gold left up there in them there hills for The X Factor as they used to say in the old days.

Nicole Sherzinger and Conan O'Brien on 'Conan' on TBS

But at least we can have some fun with The X Factor and judge Nicole Scherzinger.  With her appearance on Conan O’Brien’s talk show on TBS, the host got lost not in Nicole’s conversation but in the positioning of her upper body.  And Conan got busted big time by Nicole and in his usual frat boy humor that got him tossed at NBC over to much less watch TBS, Conan plays it off perfectly for his audience.

Watch the video.  Enjoy.

Ouch! ‘Glee’ Opens Soft, ,’The X Factor’ Premiere Off on FOX

September 22nd, 2011 No comments

Oh my!  Last night’s premiere episode of the new FOX reality show The X Factor go rocked last night.  Simon Cowell expected this to be his new boost to glory on the television network that launched him in American Idol. But as  wrote yesterday and as I blogged then as well, it looks like Zooey Deschanel’s New Girl will be the only big winner on FOX this new TV season.

Ratings are in and although The X Factor won it’s time slot the 20,000,000 viewers Simon Cowell wanted to tune in last night only got around half that number.  But no one expected this to be the next American Idol except Simon.  Which you gotta give him credit for his brash and bold prediction.

To be honest, are viewers simply tired of the same old, ongoing relatively boring competition shows?

Yes.

Now with The X Factor premiering soft along with Glee dropping audience as well, bring on that Zooey gal in New Girl.  Freshest thing on TV, freshest thing on FOX.

Paula Abdul, L.A. Reid, Nicole Sherzinger and Simon Cowell from 'TheX Factor'

This show has gone to unbelievable lengths to bring solid support to The X Factor on FOX.  A $5 million dollar prize for the final winner when all is said and done which quite frankly is a lot more that the $1 million from American Idol.  Yes, both are on the same network but FOX was banking on The X Factor to be monstrous.

Not a lot of glee today at FOX.

FOX Banking on Zooey’s ‘New Girl’ and Simon’s ‘The X Factor’

June 2nd, 2011 No comments

OK so we’ll say it.  If it wasn’t for American Idol, FOX might be fighting a few rounds with Manny Paquiao for survival of the network fittest.  Now with about $2 billion on the line from advertising agencies promising to spend huge dollars on the network two shows are destined to re-make FOX or send it in to a tailspin that the big four networks don’t like.  Giving  back money or handing out what are called make goods if the audience doesn’t buy in to Zooey Deshcanel’s New Girl or Simon Cowell’s The X Factor.

Zooey Deschanel in FOX's 'New Girl'

FOX is expected to realize almost $2 billion from brands wanting to spend ad dollars on the network during this upcoming television season and these two shows are key in guaranteeing that they get those dollars.  We’ve talked a lot about The X Factor that is already having issues with releasing pop singer Cheryl Cole from her duties as a judge for that show.  Apparently her thick British accent was a turnoff to show producers and would lead to viewer turnout.  Plus getting along with Queen Paula Abdul was an issue for her as well and since Paula is the Queen, well bye-bye Cheryl Cole.

But advertisers are also excited about New Girl starring Zooey Deschanel.  A comedy that sees her character go through a break-up with a boyfriend and decides to move in to a new place with three male roomates, one that includes Daman Wayans.  After watching the trailer for the new series this one may have some issues that don’t have to do with thick British accents but more with the fact that it was about as engaging as, well it was not engaging at all.  So this one could be a problem for FOX as well.

In a statement from the network FOX had “significant growth in volume and pricing” during this phase of upfront which is always a good thing for any network but their take of the ad dollars is similar to what they grabbed in 2010.

Paula Abdul Joins Simon Cowell as Judge on ‘The X Factor’

May 8th, 2011 No comments

Another one of those really worst kept secrets.  Negotiations were going well, then not going well, CBS was holding Paula Abdul to her contract which gave her the opportunity to create more content for that network following the limited run of her reality show Live to Dance.  That show lived to die quickly on CBS.  But Paula probably did the right thing, turning away from that agreement to join The X Factor on FOX.Paula Abdul and Simon Cowell at the Los Angeles taping of 'The X Factor'

Production on  The X Factor started today.  And Paula Abdul was on hand to greet the contestants and make the announcement of her return to her buddy Simon Cowell along with fellow judges L.A. Reid and Cheryl Cole.  On her reunion with Simon today, Paula said during today’s announcement that “I am here.  It’s awkward and wonderful at the same time” she went on to say.

Now the full judges panel is in place.  And the hosts of The X Factor were announced as well as British personality Steve Jones and former Pussycat Dolls member Nicole Sherzinger will hold down that role.

L. A. Reid First Judge on Simon Cowell’s ‘X Factor’

March 17th, 2011 No comments

Check these names out!  Jennifer Lopez, Rihanna, Lionel Richie, Mariah Carey, Kenny G, Toni Braxton, Whitney Houston, Usher, Babyface, Justin Bieber.  Yes this talented producer has worked with them all and many more Grammy Award winning artists over the years and Simon Cowell is bringing on the amazing L.A Reid as his first judge on his new reality show X Factor.

Antonio "LA" Reid

L.A Reid, currently Chairman of the Universal Music Group owned Island Def Jam Records, will be taking an early release from his expiring contract with that music giant to be a judge on the show according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Still under consideration for judges are Paula Abdul, whose show on CBS was a total ratings failure so she needs the work.  Also George Michael and the previously mentioned Mariah Carey have been rumored to be on Simon’s list.
