Well that didn’t take long. And what a perfect place for Christopher Meloni to get back in to the TV business with a really hot show on HBO. The former Detective Stabler on the NBC crime drama Law & Order: Special Victims Unit may be moving on to HBO’s True Blood according to a report from TV Line.
Ice-T is Det. Odafin "Fin" Tutuola, Christopher Meloni is Det. Elliot Stabler
Meloni would join the cast as an “incredibly powerful vampire” according to TV Line. And that’s about all we can tell you for now about this report. Meloni spent 12 years working with producer Dick Wolf on Law & Order: SVU before deciding to move on this past season.
Chris Meloni is finishing up his role as Colonel Hardy in the next version of Superman which also stars Amy Adams.

“It’s going to take a little time,” says Kevin Connolly but confirmation keeps coming that the very cool HBO show that has ended its run on the pay cable network will be made in to an movie which will bring back the boys in a much bigger way. Entourage creator Doug Elin has said all along that he wants to do a movie and Entourage executive producer Mark Wahlberg says he would “finance it myself” if he could acquire funds to put a big screen project together.
Where did Connolly make those statements about Entourage? Strangely enough on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange this morning in a conversation during CNBC’s Squawk on the Street. “It’s certainly going to happen eventually,” Connolly said on CNBC when it comes to an Entourage movie.
Elin told Entertainment Weekly that the half hour format was too short and fans want to experience a longer ride with the cast of Entourage. “The episodes are too short. {Viewers} want to go on a journey,” said Elin of the movie version of the Entourage.
Elin confirms what Connolly told CNBC this morning about Entourage that “it’s a question of when and how quick.”

“We are deeply saddened by the loss of our dear friend and colleague Andy Whitfield,” said Chris Albrecht, CEO of Starz said of the sudden loss of former Spartacus star Andy Whitfield.

Andy Whitfield died today of Lymphoma at the early age of 39. He was diagnosed with the disease that caused him to drop out of the starring role in Spartacus. He was working to get started on the second season of the top rated show on Starz when he was announced that he was suffering from non-Hodgkins Lymphoma and the series was put in immediate hiatus until the show was green-lit for a second season and a replacement was named. Another Australian actor Liam McIntyre replaced Whitfield in the title role.
“No words can express the depth of such a loss,” said Spartacus creator Stephen DeKnight. Who also added “You will be deeply missed, my brother.”

What a send-off for a great show that could be headed back to the big screen, that in Friday Night Lights. And HBO’s rough and tumble Sean Bean’s ‘Game of Thrones’ was a winner among others at last night’s Television Critics Awards in Beverly Hills last night.

Friday Night Lights ends its five year run as Program of the Year with a purely spectacular effort that saw a limited audience yet was one of television’s best. The show, as we reported earlier this week, could be headed back to the big screen as producers look to continue working with a great cast.

Don’t watch this video with little baby Leon sitting on your lap. This is not Your Baby Can Read with the amount of violence and mayhem in the new Starz promotional video for Spartacus: Vengeance, which hits the air in January on the pay channel.
Liam McIntyre from 'Spartacus: Vengeance'
OK, have you dropped little baby Leon from the computer monitor? Then check it out. It’s pretty awesome if you like this type of content. Will tell you more shortly but watch the video first.
So there you have it. The new really hot dude that is the new lead character Spartacus. Australian actor Liam McIntyre is the new Spartacus replacing Andy Whitfield, who left the show abruptly after a medical situation. If you watch any of The Pacific on HBO you saw Liam playing the character of Bell Captain Lew in that series. Now with Whitfield out, the producers of the show needed to create some significant hype in bringing back the series.
They really did.

Andy Whitfield has been replaced. And the new Starz ‘Spartacus’ is now here and ready to take over the reigns of the Starz original series that ends several months of searching for a new name to replace Whitfield who is battling cancer.
Australian actor Liam McIntyre is the guy who will become ‘Spartacus Two’ and production with the new guy is set to go to work this spring with a launch on the pay network expected to be in January of 2012.
We wish Andy the best of luck and pray for him to have a speedy recovery during his fight with cancer but the show must go on and it will with Liam. He had a stint in ‘The Pacific’ and you can catch a prequel series titled ‘Spartacus: Gods of the Arena’ which hits the air this Friday.
Without the new guy, of course.

A few quickies that you may be interested in knowing. Kathryn Erbe returns for the 10th and final season of ‘Law & Order: Criminal Intent’ on USA Network. Vincent Donofrio is also coming back to the show that was recycled to the canceled bin after a lackluster effort with viewers over the past couple of seasons.

‘Avatar’ bad boy Stephen Lang is headed to another bad boy role in the upcoming FOX series ‘Terra Nova.’ You just kinda look at Stephen and can tell he’s perfect for any bad boy role on TV and film. He will play the leader of the Terra Nova settlement, a colony of people from 2149 going back 85 million years to build a new civilization.

Jeff Daniels and Timothy Busfield hook up for ‘Happily Ever After’ from Showtime. Daniels would star in the series and executive produce while Busfield, who we all remember from ‘thirtysomething’ and as a reporter at the White House ‘The West Wing’ will direct. Daniels plays a Michigan factory worker that gives it all up to go mid life crisis and pursue a music career.

And Andy Whitfield will be replaced on the Showtime series ‘Spartacus: Blood and Sand.’ A casting call is out to find a white male in his mid to late 30′s with a British accent to play Spartacus after Whitfield announce that he won’t be coming back for season two of the series to battle non-Hodgkins lymphoma.

So today is a sad one for Andy Whitfield and the fans of a really good show. Andy Whitfield, the star of Starz first season series ‘Spartacus: Blood and Sand’ will not be returning to the show as he battles the return of cancer and he will need aggressive treatment immediately. No word yet on whether there will be a season two after Andy Whitfield’s announcement.

The new set of episodes was supposed to begin next September and Starz has made no announcement on their programming plans, though they are currently finishing production on the prequel ‘Spartacus: Gods of the Arena’ in New Zealand which will begin to air in January.
In a statement from his publicist:
Andy Whitfield, star of Starz’s “Spartacus: Blood and Sand,” has been advised by his doctors to immediately resume aggressive treatment for a recurrence of cancer, as a result of which he will not be returning for the series’ second season, which was tentatively set to air in September 2011.
“It’s with a deep sense of disappointment that I must step aside from such an exceptional project as Spartacus‚ and all the wonderful people involved. It seems that it is time for myself and my family to embark on another extraordinary journey. Thank you sincerely for the support so far,” said Whitfield.
“Our hearts and prayers are with Andy and his family during this difficult time,” said Starz President and CEO Chris Albrecht. “Andy is not only an incredible actor whose portrayal of Spartacus made an indelible impression on Starz audiences, he is also an amazing human being whose courage, strength, and grace in the face of adversity have inspired all of us.”
