‘Castle’ and Beckett Get a New Lady Boss Captain

August 14th, 2011 No comments

There’s a new sheriff in Castle town for the fourth season of the really well performed and produced show.  And she’s got some serious credentials to bring to the precinct when she becomes the new captain in charge of the crime fighting duo Richard Castle (Nathan Filian) and his partner Kate Beckett (Stana Katic) on the ABC drama.

Penny Johnson Jerald Joins ABC's 'Castle'

Their new boss is Victoria ‘Iron’ Gates in the form of well know TV series performer Penny Johnson Jerald.  Her last big role was that of Sherry Palmer, wife of David Palmer (Dennis Haysbert) on the FOX series 24.  And that’s where she picked up the attitude that she sure will bring to Castle when it returns this fall to ABC.

Last season’s finale brought the end to Captain Roy Montgomery (Ruben Santiago-Hudson) who was killed off of Castle. Penny Johnson Gerald’s character replace Montgomery as she comes from the rat squad or Internal Affairs to take over the 12th precinct.

With Final ‘Castle’ Episode, Looking Forward to Series Repeats

May 14th, 2011 No comments

Monday night television is a tough one for the DVR.  Especially at 10PM.  Yeah a real problem for me.  Can’t not watch or tape Hawaii Five O.  No way.  Best show on television and CBS has found a real hit.  A really solid show.  And although NBC has canceled Law & Order: Los Angeles, I still have to put this show on the DVR list as well.  Though I’ve written many times that LOLA is somewhat engaging during the second half of this television season, the show just couldn’t catch much of an audience with limited character development, yet I still like the concept of the show.

Prior to Law & Order: Los Angeles, there was Kathy Bates and Harry’s Law on NBC at 10PM.  Solid show getting a second go round from the network and David E. Kelley’s law related programs are always something to watch.  Plus Kathy Bates is quite awesome so that was on the DVR as well.

castle5Somehow I found Castle on ABC.  Now this network is not much of a guy network.  I write about Dancing with The Stars and Desperate Housewives but if you ask how many minutes I’ve actually watch on either of those shows, well I have two hands and that’s more than enough for a count.

So watching a lot of shows on ABC is challenging.  Kinda of a chick flick type network that truly does real well reaching out to that demographic.  I don’t know really how I caught a Castle episode, purely though by accident.  And it turned out to be one of the more interesting programs on network television.

There are a ton and I mean that in the way I say it, a ton of Castle fans out there in TV land.  A writer who works with a police department to solve crimes.  Now that’s simply creative.  It really is and it works really well.  I could tell you more about Stana Katic and Nathan Fillion who are the main characters in Castle but I’m going to recommend this.  And we hope ABC TV obliges.  Bring on the repeats, bring on the reruns of Castle once this May sweeps ratings period is over.

Why?

Because I need to catch the wave.  Yes, Hawaii Five O is my new, favorite show on television.  Probably the only old school show in re-boot stage that makes the grade.  Heck networks tried to re-do The Rockford Files and Wonder Woman but those two shows certainly couldn’t make it off the table for getting on the air anytime soon.  But you can’t beat the crew from Five O.

Nevertheless Castle does it’s season finale Monday night.  And even if ABC doesn’t put up repeats, I will, and I never do but I will actually watch old episodes online.

Castle.  Monday night at 10 on ABC.

TV Shows and Cancellations from Our Friends at ‘TV by the Numbers’

April 24th, 2011 No comments

We like this website, TV by the Numbers.  Every month or so the writers do a great job in reviewing the hits and misses of the TV season and make really good guesses at what shows will live or die on the networks.

They call it Bubble Watch.  And it’s a really cool look at the shows that have been canceled so far this full television season.  You remember Lone Star don’t you.  Ran on FOX for about a minute.  The Whole Truth ran for another minute, The Cape came and went an then there was Undercovers.

On their certain canceled list, the much promoted The Event on NBC, Detroit 1-8-7 that was simply awful.  There’s the likely canceled list that has Outsourced and Chuck on the list.  Thank any god you pray to that the ethnically stupid, stereotypical Outsourced gets dropped.  Stupid show.

Stana Katic and Nathan Fillion in ABC's 'Castle' Renewed for Next Season

On their on the bubble list is one of my favorite shows, Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior.  I think that show deserves a second season.  It has some weakness but I think there’s a future there.  And Blue Bloods is on that list as well but has a lot of issues behind the scenes as to what direction to take that show.  It has an attractive cast that keeps you engaged but it’s missing something that wants you to keep tuning in.  Maybe lost on Friday nights?

And then there’s the full list of shows that have been renewed, like my new found friends over at Castle.  But check out the link.  The whole list for what’s coming, going or may be coming or going is there.

We Haven’t Talked Much About ‘Castle’ But This Show Has Serious Legs

March 24th, 2011 No comments

Slowly but surely ABC’s Castle is doing some really significant damage on Monday nights.  In fact, the damage is turning out to be a good thing for the show and making it a real tough go for the CBS hit series Hawaii Five O.

Just this past Monday, Castle topped Hawaii Five O by almost three million viewers and the show based off the coast of California.  And beat every show on the air at 10PM Monday.  And that’s an amazing win for Castle as Hawaii Five O is one of the hottest new shows on television this season.

Nathan Fillion is Richard Castle and Stana Katic is Detective Kate Beckett

So what is Castle?  Nathan Fillion stars as Richard Castle a mystery writer that works with the NYPD, more directly Detective Kate Beckett (Stana Katic) chasing down criminals and solving crimes.  After watching a couple of episodes you may really catch on to this show.

Castle is actually creative and funny.  For a crime show.  And the two mentioned cast members have some serious sexual tension going on throughout the show.  And it’s really good that they don’t act on it because the interaction between the two is really engaging.

OK they did kiss once.

Give it a watch because it’s worth an hour of your time.  The boys and girls over at Hawaii Five O had better keep an eye on this one too.
