With FOX Cancelling ‘Chicago Code’ The City Loses Big Bucks
The city of Chicago is about to lose a ton of many. The perpetrator? FOX Television and the loss of over $25,000,000 comes from the production of the recently canceled Chicago Code, a show that started with a ton of hype yet just didn’t make a dent in the rating for the network.
But the city of Chicago stands to lose a lot of money and jobs because of the cancellation. 12 episodes of Chicago Code brought the city $25 million in revenue to the local economy. Rich Moskal runs Chicago’s Film Office told public radio station WBEZ “losing that is disappointing.”

Jennifer Beals, Jason Clarke and Delroy Lindo from 'The Chicago Code'
With Chicago Code moving out, in comes the new Kelsey Grammer Starz series Boss. Grammer show focuses on a Chicago mayor with a lot of issues in running the city and areas of personal discord. And he was in the city yesterday celebrating the opening of Cinespace Chicago Film Studios where the state of Illinois invested $5 million dollars to open the new facility that will be able to house up to six productions at one time. This new property is expected to bring in thousands of new jobs to the local Chicago economy.
The Chicago Code was watchable but nothing in the show’s content made you want to turn it on regularly or even pop it on the DVR. And except for Delroy Lindo, who just can’t seem to get a solid role on television, every character was relatively weak. Jennifer Beals played the top cop in the series and was totally miscast. Jason Clarke played a detective in Chicago Code but was the typical over-active cop that took too many unbelievable steps to solve a case. He just didn’t seem real.
NBC has a show titled Playboy ready to go in Chicago. This series will focus on the lives of some of the original Playboy Bunnies back in the 1960′s.
