With Contract Expiring, Katie Couric Talks to Other Networks

Somebody is going to take her.  As it looks like CBS is done with Katie Couric’s $15 million a year salary and not getting much back in return as anchor of the CBS Evening News.

But she still is hot property, no matter what role she decides to take with her next TV gig.  Katie Couric’s contract, looking to expire with CBS along with no renewal, is now free to speak with other networks about her services.  And she has several options says Michael Shain over at the New York Post who says she’s speaking with ABC about a gig with them.

Katie Couric

According to the article, ABC has no natural openings for Couric and she has already made it known that she’s done with morning television and wants a more higher profile than Nightline. And with Diane Sawyer beating her in the evening news ratings, chances of taking over that slot are none to negative slim.

That leaves daytime television options for her and rumor around town is that her former boss over at NBC wants her for a daily talk show.  Jeff Zucker, former CEO over at NBC, is speaking with Katie about a daytime program which would be an interesting move for Katie.  And probably her best move.

ABC might do well taking Katie on somewhere with Regis leaving and Diane Sawyer hitting retirement age last December.  So having her around for a rainy day might be a good move for the network.
