Who’s In and Out, ‘Today Show’s Meredith Vieira and CBS News Anchor Katie Couric

What a day.  Reports flying around the media world today about two very high profile women in the television business are on their way to either new lives or new careers.  The Hollywood Reporter says NBC  Today Show host Meredith Vieira will not re-up on her contract which expires in September and that she will walk away from $11 million a year.

Vieira apparently is done with her busy schedule shuffling between Today, ‘Who Wants to Be a Millionaire and the health concerns of her husband.  And wants to spend more time with her family because of his issues.

“There’s going to be an opening, she’s done,” a source told THR.  But the story goes on to say that Vieira has not made a final decision on her future.

Working on Today is a five day a week full time gig for Vieira.  And Millionaire, which is produced by Disney ABC Domestic Television, is in production from late summer to the end of each year which would give the 57 year old host of that show a lot of free time.

Katie Couric’s days at the CBS Evening News anchor desk seem to be officially coming to an end.  The reports of her demise have been on the docket since the day she started.  With Katie’s poor ratings, her placing the blame on local TV stations and  rumors that a daytime talk show is being pitched for her, CBS is ready to make the move to replace her and dump her $15 million salary.

You don’t need to stay tuned for this change because this was a long time coming.
