TV’s Tyler Perry and Black People at the Movies
He’s behind several television programs including Tyler Perry’s House of Payne and Meet the Browns. He’s had his own legal issues when the National Relations Labor Board filed charges alleging that his production company fired four writers. And his films, well his films targeted toward an urban audience, well are endless.

Tyler Perry
Now one of his films ‘Why Did I Get Married’ got some black folks in a tizzy while watching the flick at a movie theater in Dover, Delaware. One night in 2007 while attending the movie the manager, who was a white guy, asked the audience to turn off their cell phones and stay quiet during the movie.
Well the mostly black audience felt the manager was “offensive and condescending” making the announcement. Next comes the lawsuit. And the Delaware State Human Relations Commission ordered the Carmike 14 Movie Theater to pay those moviegoers $80,000 for what they call being singled out by that manager.
Now the movie theater if off the hook. The Delaware Supreme Court took the case and overturned the NLRB decision saying that the manager David Stewart was not acting on racial impulse when he asked the audience to kill their cell phones and keep quiet.
Ever been to the movies in a black neighborhood? I see Stewart’s point.
