Speaking of Cop Shows, TNT’s ‘Rizzoli & Isles’ Sets Cable Record

So when a show on cable television gets more viewers than one on ABC we have to connect these stories.  We just trashed ’Rookie Blue’ which should be recycled to the canceled bin but ABC decided to renew it since it costs about 22 dollars to produce it in Toronto.

Now the good stuff.  The hot, new ‘Rizzoli & Isles’ on TNT had a monster start with its premiere that drew in 7,600,000 viewers which was more than that ABC cop show.

‘Rizzoli & Isles’ became cable television’s the number one commercial supported series launch ever.  And the premiere was absolutely solid.  Angie Harmon was just fantastic as ‘Rizzoli’ and Sasha Alexander superb in her role as ‘Isles.’  The first is the cop, the second works in the coroner’s office.  Totally credible character development with both Angie and Sasha, real good action, real good ending, real emotion and engaging enough to give it a second go and go we must.

The season opener for ‘The Closer’ which was the ‘lead-in’ for ‘Rizzoli & Isles’ had a massive 7,700,000 viewers and with Kyra Sedgwick and Angie Harmon back to back TNT has some of the strongest female characters playing top cop roles on TV.  Perfect move to place them back to back talent like Angie and Kyra because most kept watching which has a ton of execs dancing in their cubicles at TNT.

The best shows are on cable if you want to see great women in lead roles.  Women like to see strong and empowered women.  Men, well we like the action and drama, plus the visual element of watching Angie Harmon, Sasha Alexander Kyra Sedgwick and USA’s Piper Perabo in USA’s ‘Covert Affairs’ is helpful as well.
