Tracy Morgan is in real trouble and is finally doing something beyond just sending out a statement. In today’s media world that approach, well that just ain’t gonna work. His career may be in jeopardy as a cast member on NBC’s 30 Rock and now he’s putting on a heavy PR effort to save his job and maybe his career.
The actor-comedian is headed back to Nashville where the story began on-stage at Ryman Auditorium as he made went on a homophobic rant during a comedy show that has him in pretty hot water. A rant that he no doubt expected would not be such a big deal had there not been several gay and lesbian patrons paying to see his act. During the tirade Morgan said he would “pull out a knife and stab” his son if he told him he was gay.
Morgan apologized for his comments but that did not stop the flurry of activity calling for more from GLAAD and other gay and lesbian groups. Morgan has agreed to work with the organization as he will be in New York to speak with members of the gay, lesbian and transgender community. And will also meet with parents who have lost children to gay related violence.
“I am not a hateful person and don’t condone any kind of violence against others,” Morgan said in a statement after his comment during his show came to light. NBC President Robert Greenblatt condemned the comments and Tina Fey as well.
