More Advertisers Drop MTV’s ‘Skins’ (Video)
Well this is certainly not good for the show. Because with the number of advertisers dropping now up to three, this coming week will be a challenge for any other brand to keep their media dollars in the MTV show ‘Skins’.
We reported earlier this week that Taco Bell has told the network to pull all of its advertising out of ‘Skins’ after the fast food chain received a letter from the Parents Television Council. General Motors put the show on their ‘do not buy’ list Friday after getting similar correspondence about the content of the show.
PTC has accused MTV of promoting child pornography while the show’s producers feel otherwise. PTC has also been in contact with politicos in Washington to investigate those charges and you can bet that’s the last thing Viacom, MTV’s owners, need.
The third advertiser is Wrigley, the bubble gum maker who really targets young kids for their products. “Wrigley has decided to suspend any advertising in Skins…any ads…were part of a broader advertising plan with the network,” said a Wrigley spokesperson to The Hollywood Reporter.
The Parents Television Council accuses the show’s producers and the network of targeting alcohol and racy sex topics to a teenage audience.
This is not good news for Viacom.
But take a look at one of the show’s trailers and you be the judge.
