Johnny ‘Carson’ Documentary to PBS
It won’t be ready until 2011 or 2012 but PBS’s KCET Television in Los Angeles will be putting together a two hour documentary on one of late night’s most legendary hosts.
Peter Jones has secured an agreement with Carson Entertainment Group to produce ‘Carson’ a two hour overview of the massively talented entertainer. Jones began writing Johnny Carson several years before his retirement from NBC back in 1992 to create this documentary. Carson, who kept on the down low after exiting ‘The Tonight Show,’ told the producer that he had no interest in the project and to go away.

Now with his nephew Jeff Sotzing running Carson Entertainment, the time has come for such a project which will trace the legendary entertainer’s roots all the way back to his start in Nebraska. Jones will have unseen access to all parts of the man whom Jay Leno replaced after Carson’s retirement.
The Johnny Carson brand is about as protected as deeply as the legendary Frank Sinatra. Just the breath of either name can cost you a licensing bundle.
This will probably be one of the most watched programs in PBS history.
