Hugh Grant for Charlie Sheen’s ‘Charlie Harper’ is One of Those Things That Make You Go Hmmmm….Hmmmm….

Where there’s smoke there is definitely fire.  Although talks seem to have cooled off for Hugh Grant to replace Charlie Sheen in the CBS hit comedy Two and a Half Men, expect them to go from simmer to high at some point because CBS needs to come up with something big before next week’s upfronts.

Now if you don’t know about upfronts, these  are the meetings that networks present to advertisers on new television programs they will be airing and costs for advertising in those shows.

Hugh GrantHaving a replacement for Charlie Sheen would be a big, well a huge asset to these meetings.  Two and a Half Men makes Monday nights on CBS and keeping the show in place seems to be the plan at the network.  Now the name of Hugh Grant is being shopped as the new ‘Charlie Harper’ for the new season.

Sheen just finished his tour and has pretty much burned every bridge in an effort to return to the show.  He was making, are you sitting down, $1.8 million per episode for his work with Two and a Half Men. Grant is only being offered $600,000 per episode and that seems to be where the talks have chilled.

Would he be a good replacement?  Heck yeah he would.  Can you imagine the number of viewers in episode one if he is selected or should he choose to work as ‘Charlie Harper?’   The ratings would be amazing.

But will the talks get back on track?  That seems to be the sticking point.  You can bet $600,000 an episode won’t be enough with Sheen’s current per episode rate on the street.  Could be an embarrassment for Grant if he sees it that way.

Jeremy Piven from the soon to be in its final season Entourage is also being considered for the role along with John Stamos.
