‘Good Morning America’ Takes Lara Spencer from ‘Inside Edition’
Good Morning America keeps moving forward with another big talent acquisition in the show’s continuing effort to surpass NBC’s Today Show.
Lara Spencer, co-anchor of the CBS distributed Inside Edition, is leaving the show to become the lifestyle anchor for Good Morning America. She had been with Inside Edition for the past seven years and was in line to move up to host sister show Entertainment Tonight but lost out on that position to Nancy O’Dell.
In addition to her contributions as co-host of Inside Edition, Spencer also did some work for the struggling CBS Early Show. Spencer left ABC to take the gig at Inside Edition so GMA will easily welcome her back to the fold. With NBC in limbo on talent staffing since the merger with Comcast, Good Morning America has made signficant moves to strengthen their morning brand with other talent additions including Dan Abrams, legal expert joining ABC recently.
ABC has made it very clear that toppling the Today Show on NBC is a priority for the alphabet network. Smelling blood with no movement on new contracts at NBC for any talent, GMA has shown consistent increase in audience and with these additions in staffing want that to continue.
