GLAAD Targets ‘Glee’ Rocky Horror Episode and “Jersey Shore for ‘Tranny’ Talk…It’s been a busy few days for the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation as they’ve been working day and night against FOX and MTV.  GLAAD jumped all over the two networks for the of the word ‘tranny’ in a couple of recent episode of ‘Glee’ and ‘Jersey Shore.’

The ‘Glee’ reference came in the Rocky Horror episode when Mike Chang offered to play Dr. Frank-N=Furter but had to back away from the role after his parents objected to him “dressing up like a tranny.”  And this show has been pretty gay friendly but GLAAD says the word is “hurtful, dehumanizing and associated with violence, hatred and derision of the transgender people.”  The group is talking to FOX about the episode.

Hey how about not using the word again?

Then GLAAD had to slap MTV’s ‘Jersey Shore’ over the word ‘tranny’ in one of their episodes where Mike ‘The Situation’ Sorrentino starts to talk to a club patron who his friends identified using the ‘T’ word.  GLAAD called it “one of the most blatantly transphobic scenes aired anywhere on television in the last few years.”

Well you can’t be any more blatant than that.

MTV has apologized for airing that part in the episode and has agreed to remove the segment.
