Former ESPN Announcer Jay Mariotti Beats Up Girlfriend, Again
This is one of those stories that makes you just wonder. Wonder what the heck is wrong with some men in society. Jay Mariotti, the former ESPN and AOL sports contributor, is one of those men.

Jay Mariotti
Last summer Mariotti supposedly ended his career after a domestic violence incident with his girlfriend outside a Santa Monica, California club. This incident continued to her apartment in Venice that night and all got him arrested and fired from ESPN and everywhere else he was employed. You might think he would focus on getting his life back, his career back, whatever may be left of him in the sports world.
Nope. Not Jay.
Jay Mariotti was arrested again for yet another domestic violence incident with the same girlfriend. Yes the same girlfriend. Right after he was told by a judge to stay away from her. Now he’s charged with three felony counts which could get him up to five years in prison.

Susan Filan, MSNBC Legal Analyst
MSNBC legal expert Susan Filan on Mariotti’s future. “One time arrested is not good but twice is like waving a red flag to a bull. Courts don’t like it when you disobey their orders,” she said in conversation with RealTVCritics.com. “And last summer’s incident heightens or escalates the trouble he’s in.”
Mariotti has a good lawyer. Shawn Chapman Holley who represents Lindsay Lohan and was on the team that got O.J. Simpson off during his murder trial. So can he plead out like he did on last summer’s charge against the same woman?
“He can plead no contest again,” says Filan.
You know you have to ask what’s in his mind. What makes someone like Jay Mariotti tick, or be stupid enough to assault the same woman. Heck this is Los Angeles and if you look around or just even turn 360 degrees, you can find women to date. Yeah you may have to pay for an increased cup size for some or work two jobs while she goes on auditions, never getting a call back.
But this is Los Angeles.
“His mindset is nobody tells him what to do,” says Filan on Jay Mariotti’s effort to continue the decline of his life and career.
Surprisingly Susan Filan says his career may not be over even after two incidents. “Men can come back from this if handled right,” she says. “All depends on who wants him.”
Well clearly, at least for now, Jay Mariotti’s life as a sport contributor gets no farther than Los Angeles Superior Court.
