Football Coach, Analyst Says ‘Survivor’ Saved His Life

Jimmy Johnson (left) used to coach the Dallas Cowboys and Miami Dolphins during his professional career in the National Football League.  Facing some really tough opponents over the years.  And if you’re a football fan, you remember his famous line while in Dallas.

“How ’bout them Cowboys!”

Well had it not been for his involvement in the CBS show ‘Survivor’ he might night have caught a serious medical condition that could have lead to a heart attack.  Contestants on ‘Survivor’ must complete a medical review before being able to appear on the show.  With the exhaustive tasks that need to be completed, each contestant has to be physically fit enough to be a part of the show.

Jimmy Johnson has won Super Bowls and college football championships but not ‘Survivor.’  But this year he will be on the show after six years of applying for a spot.  This season’s appearance come three years after his original acceptance when doctors found he had two blocked arteries, one fully in need of clearance and the other 70% blocked.

Johnson will be part of ‘Survivor: Nicaragua’ and told USA Today’s Michael Heistand that some nights “it was so cold that…we had to spoon.”

You can also catch Jimmy Johnson this football season on ‘Fox NFL Sunday’ prior to all NFL games on that network.
