E’s Guiliana Rancic’s Double Mastectomy, The Need to Find a Cure

Yeah we need to find a cure.  Three women in my life have been diagnosed and are survivors of breast cancer.  All close to me.   One who screamed at Dad that he would never have conjugal contact with her again while giving birth to me in 1956.  Yes there have been terrific strides in the treatment of breast cancer but no one and I repeat no one has been closer to the malady as me.  One a business partner who became a friend.  The other diagnosed at 19 years of age…yes 19 years old and fighting breast cancer.

All three survivors.  All three a significant part of my life.

Guiliana Rancic

After watching NBC’s Today Show and hearing about E’s Guiliana Rancic’s fight to stay alive, announcing that she is going to have a double mastectomy is a sad yet a supportive day for the E! Network personality.  She announced in October that she suffered from the deadly disease and now will take serious steps to keep her young life in motion.  Isn’t it amazing how the younger ones suffer more from breast cancer?

Guiliana Rancic has a fight on her schedule.  Her previous treatments for breast cancer have not worked so this is the next step in her battle to stay with us.  Her desire to have children is part of her reason to go through the procedure.  “At the end it all came down to was just choosing to live and not looking over my shoulder for the rest of my life” she told Ann Curry on the Today Show.

Wanda Sykes, comedian and actress, went through the same procedure as will Guiliana Rancic.  Her surgery took place earlier this year.  Up All Night and Married With Children performer Christina Applegate had a similar process in 2008.

Mastectomy is described as the surgical removal of one or both breasts for the treatment of breast cancer or for women who have a high risk of the disease.  To live or die, women make that decision every day.

Gotta find a cure.  Got to.  Keep walking.  Keep running.  Wear pink.  Surely worth the time it takes, which is not a lot of time, to keep working to find a reason to keep women alive.

By the way the three women mentioned above are all still alive.  Still fighting.  Many years after breast cancer diagnosis.

Yeah, I guess there is a God.
