Blair Underwood, President of the United States….on NBC
Here we go again. Another black President coming our way courtesy of NBC. Do you remember the days when the phrase “we’re not ready for a black President ran through the mouths of those in the deep, deep, deep South?
OK so his last name is Martinez as in President Martinez in the NBC drama ‘The Event’ but it Blair so we’ll let our Latino brethren have him in the hopes that one day a person of Hispanic descent or a woman becomes President.
Now back to the brothas.
Well we’ve had two on TV during the first season of the Fox show ’24′, when Dennis Haysbert played “President David Palmer” in that series. They shot him. Now he’s doing commercials for an insurance company and some kind of Delta Squad stuff on ‘The Unit’ which is on BET and ION Television.
Then D.B Woodside played his brother “Wayne Palmer” who became President after David got capped. So we do have to reference The Hollywood Reporter and remind them that Blair Underwood, who we’ve kinda forgot in this story would be the third, not the “second” black President on TV as mentioned in the THR story.

And I think Wayne got shot too. Or didn’t they try to blow him up or something at a press conference, put him in a coma, the VP took over, Wayne came back to save the day and then died?
Everybody dies in that show except Jack Bauer.
Anyway let’s give Blair his props as the third black President in the drama ‘The Event’ and even in this NBC production there will be a guy (Jason Ritter) that has issues and tries to assassinate President Blair.
OK one gets shot, the next gets blown up and this one is the target of a conspiracy. Brothas just can’t get a break.
Anyway let’s hope health care is not part of the production or it could turn in to a mini-series that goes on and on.
