‘American Idol’ and Ellen DeGeneres Done
Well we didn’t think this was going to happen for at least one more ‘American Idol’ session. We of course were dead wrong.
FOX says “goodbye” to daytime talker Ellen DeGeneres as a judge on the show in a move that the network says was her decision.
Sure. Who’s dumb enough to buy that one. Ellen got dumped cause she brings nothing to the show.
In a statement, Ellen says “my work schedule became more than I bargained for.”
A person close to production of the show told the New York Times that more changes were coming to the show beyond the Simon Cowell’s departure and the decision not to keep Ellen. More than likely the network had a trigger in her contract to let her go before August 1st and not have to pay her for this year’s portion of the contract or beyond if they wanted to part ways.

Portia de Rossi and Ellen DeGeneres...
The Times says she added “star power and a sense of humor” to the panel of judges which shows that the writer of the story who we won’t even mention here can’t read Ellen’s daytime ratings properly because that comment bears no foundation. Her appearance on ‘American Idol’ gave her daytime show more of a bump than Ellen’s audience tuning in to watch the nighttime show. You’re not really a star in any one’s playbook when a daytime show that’s lucky to reach 3 million viewers a day moves talent from that program to ‘American Idol’ which reaches 22 million people a night.
Not ‘star power’ but just a star.
Probably unfair to compare the two but the people at FOX picked her and it turned out to be an awful move. Ellen should do what she does best and that’s her daytime talk show. She’s good at it. Advertisers love her no matter what the cost to be on her show. And it was basically a lose-lose position for her.
The show that turned America’s nighttime around in prime time has problems that maybe no new judge can fix.
