We’re GLAAD and We’re Mad at ABC’s Crossdressing Comedy

December 19th, 2011 No comments

“Work it girl” is what they say at cross-dressing parties all across America.  So for those of  us who don’t watch The Maury Show on daytime television. cross-dressing or those in the transgender community involve men who like to wear women’s clothing and women who like to gear themselves up as men.

In the GLBT community it’s the “T” in those four letters that means transgender.  And ABC Television is launching a show called Work It which features two guys who can’t get jobs as men so cross dress as women.

Uh oh and no way is GLAAD letting ABC put this show on the air without getting the group’s two cents in on the content of the show and how it affects the Gay, Lesbian, Bi-Sexual and Transgender community which is where you get the four letters GLBT.

The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation says “timing couldn’t be worse for a show based on the notion that men dressed as women is inherently funny.”

ABC had no comment according to a story in Entertainment Weekly.  Not only is GLAAD mad but the Human Rights Campaign has started a write-in effort to stop the show from airing on ABC.  And three other groups have joined in the protest against Work It as well.  The network has is set as a mid-season replacement series and has not decided to launch the series on January 3rd.  ABC Television had no comment on the backlash from Work It‘s content.

The pictures are of the talent in real life then in cross-dressing gear.

Wow! What An Incredible Video as Golf Cart Goes Wild on Football Field

December 18th, 2011 No comments

This is one of those things that would have been funny had no one been hurt.  But this is not funny.  This is why Judge Judy is in business because there will lawsuits a comin’ as they say since this video is more than enough evidence to make the Dekaney High School football program in Texas look at their liability policy to find out exactly what coverage they have and how much they’ll have to shell out over and above those limits.

YouTube Preview Image

After a high school championship game a four wheel cart got loose.  Yes one of those golf carts that they use to pick up cones on the football field at Cowboys Stadium in Dallas.  Well one of those cones fell and his the accelerator causing to run wildly over the football field plowing in to several coaches and others on the field.

This is a tough video to watch so if you don’t like reality television at it’s worst don’t look at this one.  It’s not funny.  Not at all.

Still Not Understanding Russell Brand, FX Gives Him Late Night Show

December 17th, 2011 No comments

I like FX.  Great drama.  Solid shows.  From the recently canceled Rescue Me, to the severely twisted American Horror Story and finally the always solid and exciting Sons of Anarchy, FX is the place to be on cable for guys.  So male, so cool.

Still not getting anything having to do with Russell Brand.  Just don’t get it.  I really don’t but FX must know something I don’t know but this one, whatever it is, has failure written all over it as the network has given Russell Brand a six episode order for a late night show that….well not sure why they would green-light this show except for the over-rated RussellBrand.

Russell Brand and Katy Perry

“I’m so excited I’m on the point of climax,” Russell Brand said in a statement.

Dang, he really gets excited, doesn’t he.

The show will be a cross between Russell Brand’s commentary on pop culture, politics and current topics that will enhance his image and there will be interactive features from a studio audience which sounds like a show that has zero focus.

I don’t get it I really don’t get Russell Brand.  I consider him Mr. Katy Perry and find him sincerely not funny.  But somebody at FX must like the guy because he’s got six episodes coming to the network.  Though it is only six episodes.

I don’t know.  I’m way more than pessimistic on this show.

A Sex Assault, Italian Baby Mama Drama, Now Divorce for Kobe Bryant

December 16th, 2011 No comments

Here we go Los Angeles.  Another high profile divorce is underway.  Now one of professional sports most well know personalities and the mental and physical leader of Los Angeles area sports is back on television and it’s not about the Christmas day NBA game on national TV.  Kobe and Vanessa Bryant have called it quits in the marriage business and will now lead the way to TV’s most talked about divorce proceedings.

Kobe Bryant

Kobe Bryant just can’t get a break.  But the only break he got was from his wife Vanessa who he met when she was 17 years old and he wasn’t much older which of course is part of the reason why divorce was inevitable.  But she sat beside him when he acted like Herman Cain and couldn’t keep his penis wrapped in Colorado.  That got him a sex assault charge. And yes there was Vanessa.

Then at this past year’s NBS All Star Game in Los Angeles Kobe Bryant got served paternity papers by an Italian woman claiming that he’s her baby’s daddy.  That rumor floated all over the internet and sources at the game confirmed the looseness of his penis again as he allegedly paid off the woman and shipped her back to Italy.

Now come this.  Guess Vanessa has had her fill of not being the only woman in her marriage to Kobe Bryant who has seen him naked.  And the couple have called it quits.

So Los Angeles television get ready for more Kobe Bryant drama.  And we’re not talking about drama on the basketball court but his off the court issues that pretty much have ruined his chances of ever getting a major endorsement for the rest of his career.

YouTube Preview Image

And no pre-nuptial agreement was in place prior to this divorce as well.  Which means Kobe Bryant is going to have to give up half of his worth to Vanessa Bryant who in mimicking Richard Pryor “the b%$#h didn’t tell one joke and she gets half.”

“The Bryants have resolved all issues incident to their divorce privately with the assistance of counsel and a judgment dissolving their marital status will be entered in 2012.  We ask that in the interest of our young children and in light of the upcoming holiday season the public respect our privacy during this most difficult time.”

Yeah, they’ll get privacy from the public but the media…oh my!

Barbra Walters Tells ‘Barry’ She’s Outta Here at ABC News

December 15th, 2011 No comments

It was one of those things that happen to all of us.  A live microphone that you think is off when it’s really on and you say something stupid.  Barbra Walters didn’t say anything stupid like I did back in 1978 on one of my radio gigs.  Had a really bad deejay break and scream out ‘that really f@#%*#g sucked!” and the microphone was still live.

Career at 16 WQIQ Quick as we used to call it was over.

Barbara Walters from ABC News

Well Barbra Walters is suffering from a similar word association jumble when she leaned over to President Barack Obama and told him she’s getting out of the TV business and retiring from broadcasting.

According to TMZ.com, Barbra was in the middle of an interview with POTUS when she leaned over and said to the President “I need one more interview with you because I’m retiring next year.”

Al Sharpton with President Barack Obama

MSNBC's Al Sharpton with President Barack Obama

An ABC spokesperson says Ms. Walters always talks about retiring from the network and has been doing that every year since the Clinton administration.  But you can bet she never spoke of her intentions to Mr. Clinton or the second George W. Bush, yet ‘Barry’ gets the scoop.

So who’s going to referee those crazy women on The View?

No “Baba Booey” as Shock Jock Howard Stern, New Judge on NBC’s ‘America’s Got Talent’

December 15th, 2011 No comments

Now we’re talking about smart move by a network.  And this one happens to be NBC which after the Jay Leno debacle might have thought to be conservative in the talent additions to a show like America’s Got Talent.

Now to be honest I’ve only watched this show maybe 6 or 7 times since it’s been on television.  Not a real big fan of shows that are reality based singing and dancing type of TV content.  Bores me to no end but to be honest I prefer watching the comments of those who judge such shows.  Like when Simon Cowell dogs some contestant who really can sing but thinks that they actually can…you know most of them on American Idol or The X Factor.

I call it Hollywood bullshit.  It’s when talent that has no talent thinks that they have talent because their parents told them the have talent and they really suck.  Yeah, like most of Hollywood.

But now NBC has made a huge move.  As much as people dog Howard Stern’s radio show as too harsh and vile, he’s the best choice for joining America’s Got Talent as the new judge replacing Piers Morgan.  The latter decided to take his full concentration from AGT and go full time with CNN which could be a fatal career mistake. But that’s Piers.

The radio guy who we all like to hate is coming to NBC in full force.  Howard Stern is not only the new judge on America’s Got Talent but the show will move production to New York city where Howard Stern resides and does his radio show on Sirius/XM Radio.

Now that’s power!

“Feelings are going to be hurt,” said Howard Stern in an interview of his integration in America’s Got Talent.  Good.  That’s why Stern is a perfect choice for judging this or any show.  He will be totally real and not hold back his feelings which is what this show needs.  Yeah this show needs a jolt because it’s gotten pretty stale and Howard Stern will bring an interesting mix to America’s Got Talent.

Piers Morgan (right) and 'America's Got Talent' winner Kevin Skinner

Of course the Parents Television Council dogged the move.  Tim Winter, President of the PTC called Stern a “performer who is synonymous with shock, profanity and obscenity” and called the move to hire Howard Stern “an act of desperation for a flailing network.”

Hmmm OK!  So it is an act of desperation but it’s a good act, ya think?

And you gotta love this line from Howard Stern to the mothers and fathers of the children who will perform on America’s Got Talent.  “I’m going to tell your kiddie he has no talent,” Stern said on his radio show.

Oh, I just might have to start watching America’s Got Talent.

Casey Anthony Shopping for Big Payday for First TV Interview

December 14th, 2011 No comments

And so far there are no takers.  The most reviled woman and mother in not only America but probably the world is basically broke and needs some cash.  Quick.  And there’s a big problem out in TV land for anyone interested in getting that first sit down with the woman who pulled an O.J. Simpson and got off with murdering her own kid.

Casey Anthony

Casey Anthony

The Hollywood Reporter is saying that a Hollywood producer is shopping the first interview with Casey Anthony for $750,000 to any network that’s interested in chatting with her.  Problem for Casey and this producer is no network is interested in sitting down with her for many reasons.  The first is every network is concerned about the backlash of paying her to tell her story.  The other is the potential loss of hundreds of thousands of dollars should they try to get advertisers placed in the show.

In addition most major news networks say they’ll stick with their policy of not paying for interviews which quite frankly is decided on a case by case basis.  But paying Casey Anthony would be the last thing any network that wants to maintain any image with the viewing public would do.

ABC, CBS and NBC have already said no way.  Interest on the cable side has faded as well according to the Reporter.  “The backlash would not be worth it,” said one unidentified cable executive.

Christine Ammanpour Finally Out, George Stephanopoulos Where He Belongs at ABC’s ‘This Week’

December 14th, 2011 No comments

Wow!  You gotta like the people at ABC News.  They know when they make a mistake that keeping it rolling as if it’s going to find a way to fit in to their programming schedule is the way to correct is not the right long term strategy for an important program like This Week.

The Sunday morning news magazine made the perfect decision a few years ago by giving former President Bill Clinton staffer George Stephanopoulos the host seat.  With political momentum at an all time high then it was a good move and Steph was fantastic.  Making the move to take him to Good Morning America may be good for the first half hour of that show but watching George Stephanopolous integrate him in cooking segments on GMA is like me getting an invitation to a Ku Klux Klan meeting.

Oh yeah, I’m African American.

Once Christine Ammanpour get Steph’s seat at This Week many knew at that time it was a huge mistake.  Even some staffers at ABC News were dismayed at the choice.  Christine Ammanpour is a great journalist.  But even greater when she’s doing report from Pakistan, Iraq or any Mideast country where turmoil is the word of the day.

She was awful as host of This Week.  Would rather watch George Stephanopolous do cooking segments on Good Morning America.

After a year her hosting gig is over at This Week.  Christine Ammanpour is headed back to where she belongs over at CNN.  And George Stephanopoulos is going back to where he fits best at hosting that important news and political based show.  But still keep his duties at GMA.  Expect though that his integration will be in the first half to first hour of that program.

Cooking segments…are you kidding me, ABC News?

Yeah these guys admit when the make a mistake.  Most networks have been pretty quick in pulling the plug on content and decisions that just don’t work.  Ask Jay Leno.

Another Example of Racism in America, Lowes, Russell Simmons and ‘All American Muslim’

December 13th, 2011 No comments

Here we go again.  Being a blogger that actually puts his name or his blog’s name on his comments on other web-sites comments sections is not a problem for me.  But for those cowards in blogger world who make racist and bigoted statements that stay anonymous, well I’ve always considered them male, overweight and unable to get a date with a female so they use blogging as their personal satisfaction.

Nawal Aoude from TLC's 'All-American Muslim'

Today was one of those days where I just had to close my mind to what I was reading about the TLC television show All-American Muslim.  The TV show that focuses on a Muslim family in Michigan has now gained a ton of popularity for exactly what it did now want to promote.  The fact that Lowes, the national retail giant that spends millions of dollars in advertising every year, has pulled its marketing schedule from All-American Muslim.

Why?

Because of pressure from a group called Florida Family Association branded All-American Muslim as “propaganda that riskily hides the Islamic agenda’s clear and present danger to American liberties and traditional values.”

Huh?

Well anyway it worked.  Lowes hardware pulled its ads.  And for me, hello Home Depot.

Step in Russell Simmons to fan the flames against the Florida Family Association.  He’s buying up all of the ad time where Lowes dropped out to advertise his pre-paid Visa card program.  First off Russell must have some serious cash because the people who watch TLC don’t need a pre-paid Visa card.  He’d do better keeping his ad dollars placed on Maury or Jerry Springer.  Maybe Jersey Shore.  But not on TLC.

Bottom line, Lowes caved in and this could really hurt the image of Lowes, right?

Maybe not.  The outrage has been quite limited and quiet.  Do people in America really despise Muslims that much in America?  I guess the ignorant answer to that question is yes.  Clearly since there’s been no more backlash than a hip hop mogul in support of  the show and their freedom of speech in America, we have a clear indication that America has some bias issues in need of repair.

And there’s no one except Russell Simmons to start the pressure rising on Lowes.

“This can’t happen in America,” said Simmons.  Oh I’m not sure Russell knows what country he’s living in these days.  “They cant get away with that.  It’s ridiculous,” he continued.

Simmons says he will go to extreme tasks to work against Lowes pulling their ads.  It will be to no avail.  Americans can sometimes be ignorant and biased but in today’s environment that calls for attacking Muslims early and often, this one will go by the board pretty quickly or Russell Simmons will run out of money buying unused ads in All-American Muslim.

Rick Thomas
