So one of two things will happen to this show. It will either live a full life on a nobody heard of network or have a short life on a well know network, failing miserably because the producers don’t know much about the American TV viewer.
Or any country’s TV viewers. So let me say this to the people who think Wall $treet Wives has a chance for success out of the gate.
It doesn’t.
Michaele Salahi and Stacie Turner from 'Real Housewives of D.C.'
The New York Times ran a story about a new show that’s yet to find a network but is in pitch stage called Wall $treet Wives. And of course with the Real Housewives franchise on Bravo along with two series on VH1 featuring Basketball Wives, success in watching wives on TV is profitable for each network. But what sells this to viewers? What’s the hook?
Listen up Wall $treet Wives producers, the sell and the hook is drama. Period. The Times articles cites reasoning for why networks have balked at the idea of green-lighting the show and it all makes sense to this writer. “They all wanted this ugly catfight scenario,” said show idea creator Devon Fleming in an interview with the New York Times.
Well, Devon, ya think?
The success of the Real Housewives and Basketball Wives relies on one thing. Conflict between those onscreen and nothing more will bring in viewers to any show of this nature. There’s nothing else this viewer wants to see but drama which when you have a show full of women, well that leads to catfights. Once again, ya think?
Yeah, that line could get me in some serious trouble in Los Angeles. Fortunately my wife and girlfriend don’t read my blog.
Wall $treet Wives has put out a casting call actually asking for women to apply to be on the show and in the verbiage said the type of drama associated with the Bravo and VH1 hit shows would not be tolerated on this new effort. Which means it’s headed for the canceled bin. Just like Real Housewives of DC, which because of its upscale content less drama and catfights, could not make the Bravo cut. And this was the first segment of the Real Housewives franchise that’s been canceled.
Devon Fleming
Wall $treet Wives, well that’s your future should it stick with its concept of being too, too upscale. “This one will be fun and not about crazy women having catfights,” says the casting call outreach.
The show has been in pitch stage for four years now with no takers and no wonder why on a reason. But Ms. Fleming seems set on moving forward with casting and putting together a sizzle reel to show to more Hollywood producers. This one will be a tough slog for her and partner Sammi Mendenhall who has cast two shows on cable television. But both ladies need to understand today’s television viewer and ask themselves what’s the best way to get their content green-lit by a network. The way they are going, well good luck on that one.
Here’s the deal on today’s television viewers. And it’s time to be for real. Everyone is in to dumb-down TV. No matter whether you have a 6th grade education or an MBA from Wharton, we all want to know who “is the father” on a Maury are you my baby daddy episode. It crosses all boundaries. Bravo would not be creating different content from different cities with their Real Housewives franchise based only on low end viewers. What’s next for Bravo? Could be the Real Housewives of Inglewood with the constant success of that network’s top reality programs. It’s just a fact and if you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em as the song says.
This is the real world, not Fairfield or Westport, Connecticut.
I see pitches and sizzle reels from producers every day and can tell a minute in whether a show has a shot at getting a meeting for a show pitch. And if you’re reaching out to a 60 Minutes audience with a reality show, chances are you’ll be spending an enormous amount of time and money to get nowhere.
Google Snookie. Case closed.

That’s what it’s called. Sextreme Makeover. You have to give some really smart, creative producer some props because of the title of this new show on Playboy TV. It’s a pretty cool name.
There are plenty of makeover shows on television. Extreme Makeover is probably the best known on network TV. Throw in the before and after segments on any daytime talk program and you will see the extent of makeover type programming on TV.
But Sextreme Makeover? Yeah. And can’t wait for this one. Want a sneak peak? Watch the video below. It’s edgy. And is Dr. Phil or Oprah, even maybe a bit of Maury with a Playboy TV twist.
Playboy TV's 'Sextreme Makeover' Host Cara Zavaleta
Sextreme Makeover is a part of the concept Playboy TV calls TV for 2 as the network launches a new personal makeover show that helps couples figure out what to do when they are having issues in the bedroom.
And yes, Sextreme Makeover is going to highlight those issues on TV. After you watch the video you’ll see just how fun this show is going to be as the first episode airs tonight at 10 on both coasts. I had some time to chat with Sextreme Makeover show host and former Playboy Playmate Cara Zavaleta.
Sextreme Makeover is a half hour show that will focus on two couples trying to get, as the press release says, “sexy back” in to their personal relationship. “We’ll be setting them up with a sex doctor, author and helping them out with anything you can imagine sex style,” says Cara on her new show.
Tonight’s episode has a couple whose male partner feels sex toys in the bedroom are not cool while another couple with a newborn can’t find time for each other after that addition to their family. See, like I said, a little bit of Maury with first couple Erica and Andrae then a bit of Dr. Phil with second couple September and Wolf. Some other issues…”where the hell’s the G Spot, long distance relationships or how to get my partner to talk dirty to spice up the relationship, a little more fire in the sack,” says Cara of her new show.
Cara pops in and out of the half hour program while a sex doctor or expert takes the couples through the process of working out the issues in the relationship. There will be a different sexpert each week. And this is not your typical daytime talk program as the series is produced in a fun, uptempo, edgy way that will make you laugh at the couples as well as some of the suggested solutions. Do not expect to see a Dr. Phil solution where he takes the couples on a retreat somewhere so they can chat about their problems. No way, not this show. The solutions seem much more fun and way more dramatic that makes Sextreme Makeover a must watch and definitely TV for 2.
Playboy TV launched the TV for 2 brand just for that, for two people to enjoy the world of sex. Too many times watching shows about sex was for the guy messing around online at 3AM, alone in his room, something for the individual. TV for 2 on Playboy TV wants partners to watch their content together rather than alone which is a smart move for the brand, a grown up more mature effort for the network. Sextreme Makeover fills that need along with The Stash, another Playboy TV show that we wrote about earlier this year. You can read that story at the link below.
For Cara Zavaleta hosting Sextreme Makeover is another line on her resume with Playboy TV. She was a judge on the network’s Playboy Shootout reality show which helped her get the hosting gig on Sextreme Makeover. “They liked my sass, they liked my honesty and they liked my TV brains on Playboy Shootout,” said Cara as to how they picked her to be on the new show. And brains is what comes across while interviewing the former Playboy Playmate. Chatting with Cara you really get the sense that you’re speaking with a woman that knows her way around town as she really pulls off a perfect interview.
The new mom has a four month old who was chatting in the background while Cara talked about how she managed motherhood and a show schedule. And lucky for her Playboy TV worked around her new status with baby on board. Plus this was her first gig since having a baby. “I was seven months pregnant when asked to do the show,” says Cara. Yet Playboy TV held the slot for her. “What a compliment!,” she joked of Playboy hiring her so shortly after giving birth. “Sexy!,” she yells on Playboy TV offering her the job right after having her baby. It was a two day shoot and Playboy TV flew her and an entourage of the baby, her mom “as a nanny for the day” from Chicago to Los Angeles to produce her part of Sextreme Makeover.
Once again tonight at 10 for Sextreme Makeover on Playboy TV.

And it probably was a difficult decision as the show is probably one of the best on television period. TNT has decided not to renew the Ray Romano series Men of a Certain Age for a third go round citing low ratings as the reason for the cancellation. The second go round of the series was pretty weak but the show still was producer, written and performed by the cast at real high levels. Andre Braugher was nominated for a Primetime Emmy again for his work in Men of a Certain Age just this week.
Ray Roman and Andre Braugher in 'Men of a Certain Age'
“The audience simply hasn’t built to a point where we can continue the series,” said TNT in a prepared statement on the demise of Men of a Certain Age The dramedy starred Romano, Braugher and Scott Bakula as three guys going through midlife crisis which was fun to watch yet drew in a much older viewer that liked the show for one go round yet this past season the shine came off the show’s foundation yet the acting was still superb.

The couple has announced the end to their seven year marriage and this one is a shocker for a lot of people as the very active Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony are done.

Seven years and two kids later, the couple made a joint announcement as J-Lo finishes her third go round at the altar and and Marc is done with his second walk down the aisle.
“We have decided to end our marriage…this was a very difficult decision,” the couple said in a statement. “It is a very painful time for all involved.”
The couple have two kids Emma and Max both who are three years old.

And she needs to not only take a bigger role at the Oprah Winfrey Network known to most of us as OWN, but get her personal brand intimately involved in the on-air content which will be coming in the form of repeats from her old show. But OWN will not survive without additional moves like this as a cable network.
Tina Fey and Oprah Winfrey
Now Oprah Winfrey has given herself the title as Chief Executive Officer and Chief Creative Officer of the network that bears her name and is not living up to the original hype when it first launched at the beginning of this year. The ratings for OWN have been lower than expected although it may be a bit unfair to think that where they are today is a failure since starting a cable network has significant challenges. Audiences are extremely fragmented and have other place to turn to for entertainment. Plus with the philosophy that ratings equal revenue, no ratings and audience for OWN means ad sales will be off for the network.
Running old Oprah shows in the fall, oh they can’t wait for that but then is that a cure for OWN’s ills? Maybe not but a big start.
With her talk show over in May, OWN now owns all of Oprah Winfrey’s attention in building up the cable channel.

Well now maybe Jerry Bruckheimer will come to the conclusion that there is only one Gil Grissom as in William Petersen in the original Crime Scene Investigation. And that no one will be big enough to replace his role in the show that is moving to Wednesday nights. Laurence Fishburne was excellent in the role but could not stop the bleeding of viewers for CSI. Now there’s a new name coming to Las Vegas.
Mary Steenburgen and Ted Danson
The Hollywood Reporter is saying that Ted Danson will take over as the graveyard supervisor of the team of CSI investigators. The graveyard shift is probably the best in a town like Las Vegas, running from the hours of midnight through the early morning hours. Lots of activity for the team during those hours.
Although CSI has had significant ratings decline after Petersen stepped behind the camera, it is still ranked the number one watched show worldwide. But don’t expect a huge rush to watch this show even with Danson as Crime Scene Investigation has seen its best days.

OK so we’re almost there. Will it be as big as the hype it’s getting or will it be just another OK reality show. Well we are going to find out Wednesday night September 21 with a second episode the following night on FOX as The X Factor premieres this fall.
We’ve got the video of the promotional video that was just released by FOX and amazingly it looks so like American Idol but with Simon Cowell on board again with Paula Abdul back, again, here we go.
The show looks pretty slick but you can check out the video below. And also this is the release of the first photo of all of the judges on the new show.
L.A. Reid, Nicole Scherzinger, Paula Abdul and Simon Cowell, 'The X Factor'
It’s a two hour premiere each night starting at 8PM on FOX.

If the promo video you’re about to watch is any indication, this could be fun as the return of the old school CBS show Dallas is set for summer of 2012. It quite frankly doesn’t seem as lame as I thought this do-over of the original series would turn out to be but just watch, it’s actually pretty cool.
There’s JR Ewing with Larry Hagman back in his original role. He seems a bit slower these days but what else would you expect, the slimy JR of the original series? No way.
Larry Hagman
Bobby Ewing is back and he seems to be the nice, easygoing Bobby Ewing on the original series so JR will no doubt continue to muscle him. Patrick Duffy returns to that role. And Linda Gray is back as well with several other old school cast members that are not in this promotional video.
If they don’t slow it up to be another boring drama then this could work out really well for TNT. And it’s a summer show which could help as well. But it is good to see the top characters back on screen in Hagman, Duffy and Gray. Check out the promo.

OK are they called kid’s books or children’s books? And is it kids or kid’s? I don’t have kids or children so I really need help. As for book, when I go back home to Philly I always read my nephew and niece books poetry but there’s always trouble when I quote from Biggie Smalls.
What you think all the guns is for,
all purpose war got the Rottweilers by the door,
and I feed gunpowder,
so they can devour,
the criminals,
trying to drop my decimals…
Then of course I am asked to leave the residence and get back on my return flight to Los Angeles.
Courtney Mazza and Mario Lopez
Anyway Mario Lopez, host of the entertainment TV show Extra, is writing a children’s book we shall call it titled Mario and Baby Gia, which of course happens to be the name of his daughter by his baby’s mama Courtney Mazza. Gia was born in September of last year to the yet to be married couple. The book will hit the shelves for sale on September 27th.
