Chelsea Handler’s Next Move Could Be Online with MSN

July 19th, 2011 No comments

This would not be Chelsea Handler’s first foray in to creating online content for MSN says Tubefilter News and she nor the digital giant has officially confirmed but it looks like the very busy Chelsea Handler is keeping very busy.  One of those reality TV casting notices went out looking for the “Chelsea Handler of moms” to be part of this new project.  The link, just in case you consider yourself the “Chelsea Handler of moms”

Chelsea Handler

This one seems pretty safe because it is focused on families plus the producers of this new show are the same ones behind NBC’s Biggest Loser program.   The producers are looking for “family fun traditions, a yearly hunting trip or just a quirky family picnic” as the type of content they would like to see from potential participants in this new show.

The show would first launch online with MSN at the helm but history shows some of their shows get a test on a major network especially if Ms. Handler is connected to the project.

The link to the contestant page along with the full story from Tubefilter News are below.

BD Wong Out at ‘Special Victims Unit’ But Still Wide ‘Awake’ at NBC (Video)

July 18th, 2011 No comments

For 11 years and over 200 episodes, BD Wong, one of television’s most recognized Asian actors, has played Dr. George Huang on the NBC crime drama Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. His time on that show, at least for now as the lead shrink, is over.  Done.  Finished.  But his absence on NBC will be short lived as BD Wong will be moving to an new NBC project called Awake and will be once again playing a therapist.

AWAKE -- Episode: Pilot -- Pictured: B.D. Wong as Dr. Lee

B.D. Wong as 'Dr. Lee' in 'Awake'

OK so I read the synopsis of this new show and unfortunately I don’t get it.  So I’m gonna copy and paste it to this story but I will tell you that Jason Issacs from the movies Harry Potter and Brotherhood will play a detective in the series and then it gets all sci-fi on me so it’s best explained by the NBC preview.

Jason Isaacs as Michael Britten

Jason Isaacs as Michael Britten in NBC's 'Awake'

For some reason the networks this season are dealing with mind-bending dramas that just take a few views of the shows to understand and then head to the canceled bin.  But here we go from NBC….

“Awake” is an intriguing drama about a detective (Jason Isaacs, “Harry Potter,” “Brotherhood”) who finds he is leading an arduous double life that defies reality. When Detective Michael Britten (Isaacs) regains consciousness following his family’s car accident, he is told that his wife Hannah (Laura Allen, “Terriers”) perished but that his teen son, Rex (Dylan Minnette, “Saving Grace”), has survived. As he tries to put the pieces of his life back together, he awakens again in a parallel reality in which his wife is very much alive — but his son Rex died in the accident. In order to keep both of his loved ones alive at one time, he begins living two dueling realities in parallel worlds, which churns up confusion — in one moment, Michael and his wife debate about having another child to replace their son, while in the other reality, he is attracted to his son’s tennis coach, Tara (Michaela McManus, “The Vampire Diaries”), to fill the void from the loss of his wife. Trying to regain some normalcy, Michael returns to police work and solves crimes in both worlds with the help of two different partners.

OK so is it me or is that explanation damn confusing?  Watch the trailer.  But there you have it and BD Wong on his next project.  Watch the video.  I did.  I’m still confused.

‘Cash Cab’ Gonna Be Short Serious ‘Cash’ as Taxi Runs Down Pedestrian

July 18th, 2011 No comments

If there’s a version of the  Johnnie Cochran Law Firm up in Vancouver, British Columbia or the law firm of Binder and Binder, they’re gonna be in some serious business as the Canadian version of the television show Cash Cab is find itself in a spot of a mess, eh!

Adam Growe, from the American version of 'Cash Cab'

Adam Growe, from the American version of 'Cash Cab'

The cab used to film Cash Cab for Canada’s viewers was involved in a fatal accident as a 61 year old man from Surrey, B.C. was run down by the vehicle.  Filming was done for the day and a producer was driving a replica if the cab back to its storage facility when the accident happened.  So far no reason as to why and the incident is currently under investigation by authorities.

If you’re not familiar with the show, contestants jump in the cab and are asked, on camera, a bunch of questions to win cash prizing if they answer correctly.  The American version of the show has been on Discovery Channel since 2005.

Why I Write a TV Blog and “Heck No! I Won’t Go” to Cover a War (Video)

July 18th, 2011 No comments

Don’t watch this video if you don’t want to hear the perils of covering the Libyan conflict where it’s really dangerous not only to be a citizen there but also a reporter.  This one will make you cringe as you hear the voice of a member of the CNN news team fleeing in massive fear for her life after being caught up in a near ambush that could have ended a lot worse than it did.

Ben Wedeman, Senior International Correspondent for CNN

I almost has to change my shorts listening to the fear in the woman’s voice as the CNN crew fled the scene with bullets flying all around them.  Wolf Blitzer chats with CNN’s Ben Wedemen, the network’s Senior International Correspondent.

Once again, it’s really safe on Wilshire Boulevard.  I like talking TV.  Rather than following a war.  Much safer.  And yes, one of those things brothas just won’t do.  Ever.  Ever.

Khloe Kardashian’s Hubby Lamar Odom Escapes Injury in New York Accident

July 18th, 2011 No comments

Well this is reality at its worst.  Lamar Odom was in New York headed to a funeral when the car he was seated in ran into a motorcycle, injuring that driver and another person at the scene of the mishap.

Lamar Odom was a passenger in the automobile and not the driver of the car when the accident happened.  The person on the motorcycle was taken to Queens hospital and listed in serious condition.  Another teenager was taken to the hospital as well with no word on that pedestrian’s condition.

Khloe Kardashian was not in the automobile at the time of the accident and Lamar Odom was not injured.

What We’ve All Needed at One Point, a ‘Bar Rescue’ on Spike TV

July 17th, 2011 No comments

OK so who of us hasn’t needed to be rescued from a bar at some point during our lives.  Yes, I remember one night at Fridays Restaurant on City Avenue in Philly where not only did I need to be rescued but I needed a drive home and could not show up for work the next day.

Bar Rescue on Spike TV is a lot different than that awful experience.

Jon Taffer from Spike TV's 'Bar Rescue'

Jon Taffer from Spike TV's 'Bar Rescue'

Jon Taffer is a bar and restaurant consultant who is the focus of the reality show that pits him against or with the owner of a bar in big trouble.  According to the show, over 5,000 bars closed their doors because of poor management and lack of business in 2010.  So Taffer is a busy guy as the premiere of  Bar Rescue starts tonight on Spike TV.

Taffer heads to a biker bar tonight to work with the staff and management of Angels which is having issues and close to closing its doors.  Working with wife Nicole, the dynamic bar duo attempt to get the Corona, California location back on track to be a successful drinking establishment for their clientele.

Just some issues they have to face.  Get this.  A strip club inside Angels called Angels.  Oh yeah, women are really going to be attracted to this location.  Then Taffer says if there are three motorcycles parked outside the bar, women will tend not to want to go inside for a drink.  So get rid of the bikes at a biker bar?  OK, so we’re still with Jon so far.

Next the credit card machine doesn’t work.  OK so most people using credit cards in a biker bar, well most might be stolen, so cash in advance is always good.  But Taffer has issues with no working credit card machine.  Yet this is just the beginning of the problems with Angels that Taffer and his wife Nicole have to deal in episode one of Bar Rescue tonight at 10 on Spike.

Great TV Blooper from FOX 5 San Diego (Videos)

July 17th, 2011 No comments

Well we could only pull off part of the video on YouTube but we will provide the link to the full content from San Diego’s FOX 5 which just only proves that live shots in the news business can go wrong.  So Matt Johnson, a reporter for FOX 5′s KSWB-TV was doing a live shot with a guy wearing a jet pack supposedly ready to take off in to the sky when things when humorously wrong.

But it’s live TV.  YouTube only has part of what really happened but you will have to link over to FOX 5′s web-site to see and hear the frivolity that follows that will make you laugh.  The anchors of the morning show just lose it and you will get to see what was really supposed to happen to fly boy during the live segment.

At least this one was funny.  Watching FOX 11 Los Angeles cover Carmaheaven, the most talked about non-story in the history of local and national news, one reporter has a similar live shot incident.  Instead of prepping a viewer watching the opening of the 405, an on scene reporter asked the viewer if she would comment on being at the event.  That viewer quickly responded “no” which made the station look unprepared but in comparison with the joke of the so-called Carmageddon mess all media expected here in Los Angeles, this boo boo was nothing.

But watch both videos from San Diego.  Great live TV.  Headed for America’s Funniest TV Bloopers, definitely.

‘Breaking Bad’ Gets Badder Than Ever in Season Four Premiere (Video)

July 17th, 2011 No comments

Walter White is back in Breaking Bad.  Yeah that’s what the season four trailer says as you watch the video below.  A chemistry teacher turned drug kingpin after a cancer diagnosis, Walter White wants to make sure his family is covered financially as he is given only a few years to live.

'Breaking Bad's Jesse Pinkman (Aaron Paul), Mike (Jonathan Banks) and Walter White (Bryan Cranston)

'Breaking Bad's Jesse Pinkman (Aaron Paul), Mike (Jonathan Banks) and Walter White (Bryan Cranston)

Now the fun begins.  This mild mannered Clark Kent type goes through pure hell as the leader of the drug trade in New Mexico.  All  you have to do is take a look at the trailer and you will see how Bryan Cranston gives a terrific performance as teacher turned drug dealer in AMC’s Breaking Bad.

The season four premiere airs tonight at 10PM on AMC.

Is Al Sharpton Headed to Prime Time Slot at MSNBC?

July 17th, 2011 No comments

Well does the phrase “it’s about time” work here if this is true?   Is Al Sharpton, the razor mouth preacher, community organizer and radio talk show host ready to take his brand to MSNBC?  OK enough questions and maybe some answers as Sharpton, who has been filling in during the 6PM hour on the network for the last two weeks, is rumored to be given the host gig of an unnamed show on the cable network.

Al Sharpton with President Barack Obama

Al Sharpton with President Barack Obama

It’s about time, one more time.  MSNBC has been lacking in talent of color on the network, well pretty much forever and although this writer sees better choices of minority candidates to host a show there, getting Sharpton would be a big step in the right direction.  Since Sharpton began his two week fill-in role during the 6PM hour, MSNBC  was second to FOX News Channel in persons viewing in the 25 to 54 year old age group.

NBC has been lacking in diversity on the air for years but now with the Comcast merger the Philly mentality (where headquarters reside for the cable giant) seems to have had an impact on persons of color being part of the new NBC.  Me thinks that the Tea Party has a much more diverse membership than NBC.  Star Jones is now a regular legal contributor on the Today Show on NBC as this morning program has been pretty active in putting minorities as talking heads on that show.  Usually it’s the same old boring, tired, over-used regulars seen on Today and MSNBC but there seems to be a new trend for both networks and Comcast is laying down the noting how minorities use television and how having them integrated in to content on NBC just might increase that thing called ratings on the lackluster network.

Bottom line the last census is no doubt helping to push NBC in a more diverse direction and it is needed for pretty much all networks.  Especially in the Latino community which has grown dramatically in the census figures.

Cenk Uygur has been full time in the 6PM slot since Keith Olbermann took his show on the road to Current TV but word is that he will remain with MSNBC in some capacity.

‘Carmageddon’ is Really ‘Carmaheaven’ as Media Frenzy Totally Overblown

July 16th, 2011 No comments

We’re right in the middle of Carmageddon.  If you live in Los Angeles today the highways and biways all over the city are barren of four wheel traffic.  Even the city streets are empty.  There was more traffic during the Royal visit last weekend, a lot.  But watching the local news here on Los Angeles television is like watching the aftermath of an earthquake.  Or Katrina.

All for nothing.  What a big waste.  TV station news divisions were hoping for the worst.  Hey, then there’s a story right.  Even the traffic people on local TV are saying “wow” there’s really nothing going on out on the roads of any significance.  But then on the other hand as you can be real critical of local news coverage of the big dig on the 405, you gotta give local TV and radio media some serious props.

Along with the city of Los Angeles.

The pre-planning of informing everyone in Los Angeles of the billion dollar construction plan was simply amazing.  You would have to have been lost in space if you weren’t hit with the messaging from everywhere and everyone about the closing of one of the most traveled pieces of road in America.  The Mayor of Los Angeles, Anthony Villaraigosa, hit pretty much every TV and radio station in town with the news that being on the road this weekend would be a serious mistake.  Buses were giving riders free transportation on 26 lines and several subway lines running through the city were also at no cost for the weekend.

Just shows that pre-planning works out really well.  When you know of an issue like Carmageddon, you can make your plans around it like we all did.  Stay at home, walk, stay in the neighborhood, go see Harry Potter, do anything that does not require you to be out on the road.  Be anywhere near the 405.

For all of the negative naysayers, as in some in the media that expected and wanted catastrophe, maybe next year.  We will be doing it all over again here in Los Angeles.  One more time residents here will have to endure another construction project on another major highway but if this is any indication of how all goes well with proper planning maybe TV stations won’t make such a big deal about it right?

Naaaaaah….
