Washington DC Weatherman Has One of Those Days (Video)

August 11th, 2011 No comments

When I was on the air back in my radio days, there was always a time when nothing worked right.  You’d push a button first thing in the morning to play a song and some numb-nuts over-night board operator didn’t cue up the song at the beginning so all you had was the end of the song.

Embarrassing.

Or maybe you turned on the mike and said the wrong thing.  Or maybe you did like I did in my real early days in radio at 16 QIQ Quick radio in Chester one night.  I did a bad intro and thought I turned off the mike.  After that bad intro I screamed the “f” word, of course that word going live to the 8 people who listened to that radio station.

Embarrassing.

Oh, yeah and fired!

Or the time when they changed my pass code at one radio station when I couldn’t get back in to the studio office because the program director never told me.

Embarrassing.

Once again, fired.

But in today’s world where computers run the show there’s no choice but for more embarrassing moments.  At least mine were man made by the man known as me.

Check out this video of an NBC4 weatherman’s forecast that goes so terribly wrong.  But he does a great job with it so enjoy.

‘Tia & Tamera’ Blows Up Style Network, Most Watched Show Ever

August 10th, 2011 No comments

Well now there’s something to really cheer about over at Style Network.  Now under the watchful eye of NBC you can’t beat the timing of last night’s big audience delivery for the network as the premiere of Tia & Tamera just blew up Style Network.

The premiere of the new reality show brought in the biggest number of viewers ever in Style Network’s history.  The sister duo has a lot going on that really brought in a large number of female viewers which is really the core target for Style Network.

This ain’t Spike TV.

Tia is going through her first pregnancy (chick flick type stuff) and Tamera is working on her upcoming wedding (more chick flick type stuff) and all of the dressing that goes along with planning that event.

Tia and Tamera airs Monday at 9PM.

‘Lopez Tonight’ Headed to ‘Lopez Last Night’ Thursday

August 10th, 2011 No comments

Well George Lopez and his career as a late night talk host is quickly coming to an abrupt end and you’re looking at an end in the next 48 hours.  And we’re not talking about the 48 Hours TV show on CBS.  We’re talking about TBS dumping comedian George Lopez’s 2 year running Lopez Tonight.

George Lopez and Taylor Swift

George Lopez and Taylor Swift

Thursday will be the final episode of the late night chat and entertainment show according to a network spokesperson.  And Conan O’Brien, whose program replaced the Lopez Tonight time-slot when the redhead arrived to TBS may not be far behind.

If you remember Conan O’Brien bounce George Lopez’s show back an hour to get Conan in the 11PM slot.  Well that move put Lopez Tonight on the future canceled bin status as the expected increase in viewers for O’Brien’s show did not happen therefore not giving Lopez a lead in audience.

And that’s where we say, ‘that’s all folks” to George Lopez.

Just an observation but is there anything left for late night television on cable?  Is there an audience out there to justify the costs of producing these shows?  Right now that answer seems to be “no.”

The End of Pay Television? Cable and Satellite Subscriptions Historic Drop

August 10th, 2011 No comments

If this isn’t a sign of things to come there may not be any more direct a message to the television industry.  And if this trend continues there is a big problem for the future of cable and satellite TV.

This economy is so bad that people are dropping subscriptions to pay television at record levels.  Both cable and satellite lost 580,000 users during Q2 of this year.  And those users say the cost of these services is too high.  Plus the increase usage of other services like Netflix and Hulu,  then throw in AT&T along with Verizon both getting into the content providing business and you have an industry that in a serious arena of decline.

And the impact is even more clear in neighborhoods with lower income users.  “The economic impact on our customers in lower income neighborhoods is more pronounced,” says Tom Rutledge CEO of  Cablevision Systems.  And the future is not bleak for users in those area as Rutledge sees “less gross adds in lower income areas,” in a chat with Bloomberg News.

Dish Network is going in a different direction with their future marketing efforts.  They’re ready to forget the low-end user and focus on people who can afford their service and not turn it off.

TLC Brings ‘Candy Girls’ Reality Show and Some Old School Memories (Video)

August 9th, 2011 No comments

OK so I have to talk about this new show that coming to TLC because well it’s a story that I think is a lot more interesting than watching CNBC as my financial status goes from relatively well off to pretty much broke.  Yes, there was a time about six months ago where I was in pretty good shape and now, well now the top floor of my office building is looking attractive.

OK I’m just kidding.  I think.  Though head first from double digit floors upward really seems like an option.

But Jackie Sorkin who owns a company called The Hollywood Candy Girls is getting a new reality show on TLC called Candy Queen.

The Hollywood Candy Girls

The Hollywood Candy Girls

Yawn I say here as this show will follow the entrepreneur as she runs her company that provides an event planning service based on designs around candy.  Though I gotta say this show will be a real loser, the idea Jackie has created is really good.  If you go to their Facebook page, The Hollywood Candy Girls have done some really big parties for Oprah’s OWN and FOX.

A reality show?  My trek to the roof of my building after viewing my current stock portfolio is more interesting than this being a reality show.  Six episodes are on the block and no start date yet.

But this story does bring back some really  cool memories.  Watch the video with New Edition from the 80′s.  At least something fun from this story.

Sarah Michelle Gellar Doing Guest Shot on ‘All My Children’

August 9th, 2011 No comments

The soap opera is coming to an end on ABC TV with its next life headed to the world wide web but before the demise of All My Children one of the show’s former performers is returning.

Just for a guest shot though.  I wouldn’t expect Sarah Marie to do anything ever close to being connected to the internet series cause that one is going to be a pretty hard sell.

Sarah Michelle Gellar

Sarah Michelle Gellar

But one catch for AMC fans.  She won’t be coming back in her original role as Kendall Hart Lang and she was very sure that a new character would be part of the deal.  “I was very specific, I don’t want to be Kendall,” said Sarah Michelle Gellar.  Currently that character is being played by Alicia Minshew.  “That’s Alicia’s role,” she said.

Gellar has a busy schedule with the launch of her new show on The CW titled Ringer. Which is getting a lot of promotion on that network.  Story on that show coming soon as that show hits The CW in the fall.

Marriage Proposal Caught ‘Live’ on Kansas City TV Station (Video)

August 7th, 2011 No comments

Noooooooo!  Nooooooo you fools!

Even the reporter says these kids are too young and that she wants to have a one on one conversation with the newly minted female half of this future union, to give her the real deal on what she’s doing.  But this makes for great television.

Brenda Washington from Kansas City’s KMBC was reporting from the airport on the high cost of eating healthy and yes we must ask why would you report on the high cost of eating healthy at an airport?  OK for another time to find out the answer to that question but as she’s doing a report a young man gets on his knee and proposes to his girlfriend in the background of the live shot.  Washington and her photographer do a great job in grabbing the couple and interviewing them on KMBC.

A small wedding in planned in September for Josh Mullin and Ashlee Baldwin so you can bet KMBC will be sending a camera crew to cover the event.

‘Game of Thrones,’ ‘Friday Night Lights’ with ‘Modern Family’ Win TCA’s

August 7th, 2011 No comments

What a send-off for a great show that could be headed back to the big screen, that in Friday Night Lights.  And HBO’s rough and tumble Sean Bean’s ‘Game of Thrones’ was a winner among others at last night’s Television Critics Awards in Beverly Hills last night.

Game of Thrones Actor Sean Bean

Friday Night Lights ends its five year run as Program of the Year with a purely spectacular effort that saw a limited audience yet was one of television’s best.  The show, as we reported earlier this week, could be headed back to the big screen as producers look to continue working with a great cast.

ABC Apology for Nicky Minaj’s Janet Jackson Moment on ‘Good Morning America’ (Video)

August 6th, 2011 No comments

You gotta ask this question.  Why is it when Janet Jackson, now Nicky Minaj go to work, their boobies pop out but when I go to work nobody’s boobies pop out?  I mean in the world of equality of popping out boobies, you would expect that somebody’s would pop out at my office on Wilshire Boulevard in Los Angeles, right?

No way.

"Good Morning America" - 'Nicki Minaj in Concert' - Robin Roberts and Nicki MinajIt only happens on national television when either a few million are viewing as in ABC’s Good Morning America or 50 million are watching during the SuperBowl.

And I missed both.

Seems Nicky Minaj, who I think has the greatest hip hop voice in the current music industry as I just like her whole persona, had a Janet Jackson boobie malfunction on the national morning show and ABC is now apologizing.  Seems Nicky Minaj was doing her thing in Central Park when her sports bra could not hole everything where it supposed to be held and her boobie bounced, rocked and skated during her live concert.

Now we could show the video but you can search for it yourself on YouTube.  “The live East coast feed included certain fleeting images…we are sorry that this occurred,” said ABC in a prepared statement.

Once again, seeking the video is up to you.  But we will show the interview with GMA host Robin Roberts instead.  And I really like Nicky Minaj!
