DB Woodside Joins ‘Parenthood’

August 28th, 2011 No comments

Crosby is getting some competition for Jasmine‘s attention.  And some serious comp.  OK let’s do a bit of set-up.  Crosby (Dax Shephard) hooked up with his baby’s mama Jasmine (Joy Bryant), moved in with her, bought her a house, did the “you are the father’ Maury type thing then bumped you know whats with Minka Kelly’s Gaby Moss, came clean (you never come clean) and Jasmine kicked Crosby to the curb.

That’s one heck of a fast forward.

Now enter DB Woodside, who I remember from FOX’s 24, another brother President that got messed up on that show.  Somehow all of the black Presidents get messed up on 24.  I didn’t see any of the white Presidents get shot or blown up on 24.

Somebody get Joel Surnow on line one.

Now DB Woodside enters Parenthood on NBC, getting a five episode stint on the show as Dr. Joseph Prestidge, an Ivy League guy, probably from Penn, who is so different than the take it as it comes Crosby.  He does his thing to get close to Jasmine and of course all you know what will break loose in the Braverman clan over the good Dr. Prestidge.

That’s all according to a report from The Hollywood Reporter.

Executive Producer Jason Katims told THR “things maybe didn’t work out for them quite as well as it seemed” for Crosby and Jasmine as the end of last season had them “happy together” in the words and music of The Turtles back in 1967.  Google it because if I have to go back to 1967 the scotch on the rocks is kicking in on a Sunday afternoon when the temperature hits close to 100 degrees in Los Angeles.

Uh oh!  That top shelf scotch will provide a bit of creativity won’t it?

Parenthood is back on NBC September 13th.

Are These People Stupid or Something? Two Idiots on a Boat in a Storm

August 27th, 2011 No comments

OK so yes this blog and this writer are based on the east coast.  Yes I’m from Philly and lived on the east coast for most of my life.  Doing Boston for a few years, New York for a couple of years.  So with a bit of concern with family in those areas I spent a good part of the day watching storm coverage on CNN.  Now this storm was on the radar for what about a week before it really hit the east coast so this gave everyone there plenty of time to get the hell out of Dodge City, right?

Then comes the story from Norfolk about these two idiots, maybe I should call them morons, that decided to get in a sailboat during a major hurricane.

I’m not kidding.  A man and a woman get in a sailboat during  Hurricane Irene, predicted to be one of the most powerful storms in most of our lifetimes.

What is wrong with people?  I mean what is wrong with people?

I say the next time a couple of idiots or morons jump in a damn boat in a storm that we leave them in the ocean to die.  Die!

So watching CNN, watching  everyone on the east coast from Norfolk all the way up to Boston getting prepared for a major hurricane and these two people are out in a boat in the ocean.

So from the CNN anchor, this question to the guy from Norfolk Fire and Rescue.  “I’m curious, why were they out there, clearly they knew of this storm that was on it’s way, what were they doing in the water in the first place?”

“They were trying to out run the storm,” said Captain Mike Marsala from fire and rescue.  “They had some engine trouble.”

Idiots.  Morons.

Next time someone says they want the government out of their lives, remember they have to send money to Norfolk Fire and Rescue to go pickup, well a couple of idiots and morons.

You can watch the story from the link courtesy WAVY in Norfolk.

Get Packed, Get Ready to Take a ‘Georgia Road Trip with G. Garvin’

August 26th, 2011 No comments

G. Garvin wants you take a road trip.  No he’s not doing that guy thing where you see baseball games from Boston to Miami.  Or a road trip to the Jersey Shore for spring break.  G. Garvin, one of America’s newest and hottest names in the food business on television is taking you beyond turning up the heat asking you to join him for Georgia Road Trip with G. Garvin this weekend on Cooking Channel.

Chef G. Garvin, Host of Cooking Channel's 'Georgia Road Trip with G. Garvin'

Chef G. Garvin, Host of Cooking Channel's 'Georgia Road Trip with G. Garvin'

The “culinary adventure” will take Chef G. Garvin home to his Georgia roots, to “places that have been talked about and places that represent the South with a unique twist,” says G. Garvin.  And just because it’s a show shot exclusively in the state of Georgia, this is not show about soul food.  “It’s about a great dish, a great chef or a great owner, anything that is served in the historic South.”

“We ate a lot of food,” for this special G. Garvin said during my interview with him.  “We wanted to go to places that were relevant to the South,” he chats about the new special.  “Everyone is doing the Southern influence when it comes to food.”   And there’s more  to come, a lot more to come as G. Garvin is expecting this special to be green-lit for a full series.  Meaning that the “road trip” portion will grow to a series that can take G. Garvin to any part of the country, maybe any part of the world.  In fact this special will be airing in parts of Brazil so the options for expanding beyond Georgia Road Trip with G. Garvin are in his future plans.

G.Garvin’s roots may be from Georgia but his experience in working as a chef serving many types of food gives him a great foundation for hosting Georgia Road Trip with G. Garvin .  He’s been in the kitchens of  restaurants serving Italian, American, French and soul food.  And if you’re looking for any of his recipes you will be able to find several books including Dining In, Turn Up the Heat with G. Garvin, Make It Super Simple with G. Garvin and more with several books  to be released soon.

G. Garvin just finished an arc of shows on TV One, the urban audience focused network.  Now with his move over to the mainstream viewed Cooking Channel his brand will be exposed on a network that is truly focused on cooking.  Cooking Channel is owned by Scripps which runs the very popular Food Network cable channel.  With Georgia Road Trip with G. Garvin , the chef feels he’s in the right place for his new series.  “Food Network is more about entertainment, contesting and reality shows.  Cooking Channel is about food.”

G. Garvin has been working on hooking up this type of show with Food Network for “five or six years” and with Cooking Channel in place for the last couple of years he sees nothing but many more opportunities for his integration hopefully both networks.

“I’m part of the culinary world, doing this for 25 years,” says G. Garvin.  And it’s all paying off.  Starting with Georgia Road Trip with G. Garvin .  The special premieres Sunday night at 8PM Eastern/5PM Pacific on Cooking Channel with repeats listed below.

‘Charlie’s Angel’ Minka Kelly, Boyfriend Derek Jeter Back on Match.com

August 26th, 2011 No comments

Well it seems to be over according to JustJared.com that this morning is reporting that future Charlie’s Angels, Friday Night Lights and part time Parenthood‘s  Minka Kelly and superstar, baseball, future Hall of Famer Derek Jeter have called it quits on their one on one hookup.

Minka Kelly and Derek Jeter

And her people have apparently confirmed the split so we won’t have to go through the Will Smith/Jada Pinkett Smith are they or aren’t they together because this one seems to be 100% true.

The on again off again relationship seemed to be headed toward the aisle which you can bet would have been about as big as last weekend’s Kardashian affair.  But it’s back to baseball for the Yankees shortstop and “action” for the new Charlie’s Angels as Eve in the upcoming series on ABC.

‘Toure’ Blasts ESPN on ‘What if Michael Vick were white’ Article

August 25th, 2011 No comments

Oh my this is turning in to a real mess.  For ESPN that is and the hit the network is about to continue to take over an article that will appear in the September 5th issue of ESPN the Magazine.

Take a look at the picture with the white guy.  Yes take a long look at that picture with the white guy and then take a look at the picture of the black dude.  Well the guy and the dude are the same person.  Or the exact same person as some would error grammatically.

Michael Vick as a white guy

The real Michael Vick

Yes ESPN the Magazine. had one of their artists re-do the Philadelphia Eagles quarterback in white-face for an article written by TV talking head and cultural guy Toure.  The article titled What if Michael Vice were white detailed how the dog-fighting convicted leader of the Eagles was treated back in the days when he led a very troubled lifestyle.

Toure says he did not want ESPN to give his article that title but in his position as writer he has no control over the headline.  The web-site originally had the first picture uploaded with the story and then went back and changed it to Michael Vick the black guy after all you know what broke loose.  Then ESPN, figuring they had a big story, decided to put the white-faced Vick back on their site.

'Toure' is the guy on the left

So instead of me just going over the whole story because I get a bit crazy when stories about racism in sports are written I have provided a few links to what Toure’s story is about and his reaction to his article.  I guess more, the picture.

For Toure’s part, he’s not really happy about the bait and switch white guy/black dude thing.  Read on.

Dang!!! Check Out This Banned Commercial for the Hyundai Veloster (YouTube Video)

August 25th, 2011 No comments

Our friends over at TV Week have done it again.  Another commercial focused on cars and some serious though went in the creative concept that led to this which was banned by Hyundai in Denmark.

So the Hyundai Veloster has three doors.  And like cabs in New York that will only let you out on the curb side, the Hyundai Veloster seems to do the same thing.  And this commercial surely highlights the safety of getting out on that curb side instead of the street where cars might be coming at you at a high rate of speed.

Pretty powerful commercial.

New Apple Pie and Pizza Diet as Tennis Great Anna Kournikova Joins ‘The Biggest Loser’

August 25th, 2011 No comments

Now I found my reason go back to my old diet.  I’ve been on this low carb diet.  No rice, no bread (I’ve had a little) and no pasta are the biggest losers for me and I actually don’t miss the 25 pounds I’ve dropped.  But I’m going back.  And if there’s a reason going back, getting cast on NBC’s The Biggest Loser and getting trained by Anna Kournikova is all worth it, I say.

'The Biggest Loser - Anna Kournikova

The tennis great will be joining the series this new set of shows which begins on Tuesday September 20th.  Let’s see if I start eating apple pies and all pizza I should be about 250 by that date.  But with my luck I’d drop from a massive coronary.

Anna Kournikova joins Dolvet Quince, Alison Sweeney and Bob Harper as the team of fitness experts who will be working with the likes of former NFL player Antone Davis who played offensive tackle for the Philadelphia Eagles and the Atlanta Falcons.  Yeah, Antone played for the Eagles when I lived in Philly.  What do I remember about Antone Davis?  “Holding!  Number 89 on the Eagles offensive, 15 yards, the touchdown is nullified, replay the down,” from the referee of any game Antone Davis played for Philadelphia.

Dolvett Quince, Alison Sweeney, Bob Harper and Anna Kournikova

Anyway back to Anna.  Aaaaah, forget it.  But read the list of participants for this season’s The Biggest Loser below.

REBECCA “BECKY” COMET (Math teacher), 51, Benton, Arkansas

MIKE DANLEY (High school teacher/football coach), 62, Spencerville, Indiana

ANTONE DAVIS (Restaurant manager and former NFL player for the Philadelphia Eagles and Atlanta Falcons from 1991-97), 44, Knoxville, Tennessee

PATRICK FERRARI (Mental health adult foster care worker), 26, Albany, Oregon

JOHN “JOHNNY” FORGER (Realty company owner), 65, Canton, Massachusetts

BONNIE GRIFFIN (Retired payroll supervisor), 63, Picayune, Mississippi

VENCENT “VINNY” HICKERSON (Songwriter/entertainer), 27, Nashville, Tennessee

JESSICA LIMPERT (Travel nurse), 26, San Francisco, California

DEBORAH “DEBBIE” LOUNDS (Sr. administrative assistant), 60, Ann Arbor, Michigan

Old Spice Front Guy Joins ABC’s ‘Charlie’s Angels’ (YouTube Videos)

August 24th, 2011 No comments

So it’s probably easier to just watch his commercials.  That way you will really know who he is.  Because unless you call him the ‘Old Spice’ guy or wore Old Spice as a fragrance back in the 1970′s or 80′s you would not connect Isaiah Mustafa to, well really about anything.  But he built his brand big time by doing a lot of commercials for Old Spice and now he’s taking a bigger step in his TV career.

Isaiah Mustafa the 'Old Spice' Guy

Isaiah Mustafa will join the ABC do-over of Charlie’s Angels this coming fall in a recurring role as Detective Ray Goodson.  In addition to being a part of the local police department Goodson is also the ex-fiance of Angel Kate who is being played by Annie Ilonzeh.

But check out the YouTube videos below.  They’re classic.

‘Criminal Minds’ and “The Most Sexist Ad of All Time” from Old School TV (YouTube Video)

August 24th, 2011 No comments

So our friends over at TV Week have been posting this TV commercial for about 10 days or more now and we kept watching and watching and watching.  On YouTube it’s titled “The Most Sexist Ad of All Time” but maybe I’m missing something here because to me this is about safety rather than being sexist.

Now I know I may take a bit of heat from women on this but wait a minute.  This was aired sometime after 1967 when, well I have to say it, men were truly sexist.  I mean let’s be real, back then it was like Mad Men on AMC.  Ad agencies were run strictly by men, owned by men, men were in all top positions throughout these companies as most women were home taking care of the house and kids.

So what else would you expect.  After watching though, isn’t it pretty much real?  The Goodyear Polyglas tire was about keeping people safe but from an advertising standpoint it’s all about fear.  About making women fearful of being on the road at night by themselves and getting men to think about what could happen to them if their automobiles fail.  And getting a flat tire is a regular occurrence these days with all of the crap on the street of most major cities.

I think it’s a pretty darn good commercial!

Now maybe I watch too much Criminal Minds.  Or that other show Crime Scene Investigation.  But in Criminal Minds there’s always a car breaking down with a woman or women inside, taken hostage and then ending up chopped in to several missing pieces and their bodies dumped in a ditch.  And usually the team of Behavioral Analysis Unit members don’t get pulled in to something unless there are multiple bodies found, right?

So wouldn’t you want your wife, daughter, girlfriend or ex-wife to have a new set of Goodyear Polyglas tires?  OK maybe not your ex-wife that you’re working a second gig to keep up support payments but you as a man surely want the women around you to be safe.  The last thing you want is Hotch from the BAU on Criminal Minds doing an interview with you as you have filed a missing report on some woman  that’s missing.

There’s always a missing woman.  Usually some blond that met some scum on Match.com and I have to spend my mornings watching the second half hour of the Today Show on NBC because some woman is missing.  So go out and buy, even your ex-wife a damn set of Goodyear Polyglas tires.

Please.

So there you have it.  Not a sexist ad but a real true ad focused on fear.  Bet they sold a lot of Goodyear Polyglas tires back in 1967.  But watch the ad and judge for yourself.   You’re really gonna love the music.

‘Dr. Phil’ Show Goes ‘Casper the Friendly Ghost’ on ‘Hot Sauce’ Mom Verdict (Videos)

August 24th, 2011 No comments

And if you think anyone from CBS or from the Dr. Phil show is going to respond to the guilty verdict of the so-called ‘hot sauce’ mom well don’t hold your breath.  Why?  Because you can bet there will be some future litigation coming toward someone responsible for this show real soon.  To a courtroom near you, Dr. Phil!

So if you’ve been living under a rock or are single with no kids, under the age of 25 with no significant care in the world, you may not have heard this story.  A woman from Alaska, who could see Russia from her back window because she adopted a child and/or other children from that country, was convicted rightly for child abuse.  As a form of punishment, this maggot of a mother poured hot sauce down the throat of her seven year old son.

Hell I just remember having to go and get a belt so my parents could whack me.  But hot sauce?

What did this kid do?  No he didn’t burn down the house, pull a gun on maggot mom nor did he strangle to death any one in his family unit.  He did the unthinkable think that any child can ever do, the worst action ever which to her deserved the hot sauce down the throat treatment.

He lied.

BREAKING NEWS!!! A seven year old child lied.  Get me my Lawry’s Hot Sauce, big bottle please!

Not only that she threw him in a cold shower as punishment as well.

Now here’s how she got caught.  A producer for the Dr. Phil show asked her to send them a videotape of her using this type of penalty against her seven year old son.  So what does maggot mom do?  She says “Sure no problem, Miss Producer of the Dr. Phil Show” and proceeds to rolled tape on her activity abusing her son.

Step in a few prosecutors and a few Russians  in their adoption world then comes all hell.  She’s arrested, charged, put through a trial and  yesterday convicted facing up to one year in prison and $10,000 in fines.

What did she have, Casey Anthony’s attorneys working for her?

She told Dr. Phil that the boy was “the biggest stress in my life.”  No I think your conviction is well on its way to becoming the biggest stress in your life, you maggot of a mother.

Oh and I purposely don’t give you her name because maggot mom is about as high a level of identity she deserves.
