So I will leave it up to you.  Watch the video.  Let us know your thoughts on House of Lies.

Snoop Doggy Dog is in The House With NBC Comedy

October 9th, 2011 No comments

The rapper/actor/Dad is getting his chance to go big time beyond the cable shows he’s been connected to over his past television efforts.  Snoop Dogg is headed to the newly  diverse oriented NBC television network with a new comedy that pretty much is about his real life.

Chaos.

2nd Annual Health Awareness Benefit Concert Featuring Snoop Dogg at Club Nokia in Los Angeles

Snoop makes no bones about the chaos on the home front and that will be part of a new comedy that is currently unnamed.  He’s set to star in the sitcom that focuses on a father and his crazy children.  Don Reo, who worked on My Wife and Kids with Damon Wayans, is connected to this comedy as well.

Expect a lot of the family antics we say in Snoop Dogg’ Fatherhood on E!.

True Hollywood Greed, ‘The Simpsons’ Salary Saga May End Show

October 7th, 2011 No comments

Craig T. Nelson said it during an interview with Access Hollywood. Ed O’Neill complained about the problem as well during an interview with the Hollywood Reporter.  And it’s going to get worse out here in Hollywood as networks and production companies, under fire to see more profits from advertisers, seek significant decreases in salaries from talent.

'The Simpsons' on FOX

The cast of the FOX television show The Simpsons each receive $400,000 per episode for their voice work on the show that has been on the air for over 20 years.  The new season for The Simpsons is in full cardiac arrest as 20th Television, the producers of the show, look to make that per episode cost drop before new production begins.

With six cast members generating $400,000 each per episode, well you do the math just for talent and not the behind the scenes writers, producers or animators for the show.  Put that over $3,000,000 per episode and ad profits are quite low or not even attainable for FOX.  And FOX, with its many issues in prime-time and their cable properties for profit, salaries paid to voice-over talent can lead the show to cancellation.

The challenges of making programs profitable versus ad dollars is continuing to put a drain on company profits for networks.  And production companies and networks, under serious pressure to increase valuation on you guessed it Wall Street, see these talent wages as a great target.

Harry Shearer, who voices Homer Simpson on the FOX show released a statement today about the ongoing negotiations for a salary adjustment.  He says he will take a 70% drop in his $400,000 per episode take home for a hit on the back-end syndication agreement.

FOX ain’t gonna go for that.  But a nice offer.  There’s no way even on Terra Nova that any company is going to set precedent and allow that.

Talent in Hollywood is in trouble and it’s not going to get any better.  In an interview with Access Hollywood, Nelson was set to star in O’Neill’s role on ABC’s Modern Family but turned that deal down because of what he was to be paid.  Then Parenthood came along and he took that gig.

This negotiation will set the trend for talent on television as networks struggle in this economy to become profitable.  Local TV stations have already depressed salaries of talent.  The million dollar a year anchor gigs have gone by the wayside in local TV news and it was just a matter of time before this shifted to where the big dollars are spent.

The days of big salaries are on the decline.  If The Simpsons gets canceled it will send a chill throughout the talent community that is cooling off on its own.

‘American Idol’s Lee DeWyze Loses Deal, Record Labels Jive, Arista Close

October 7th, 2011 No comments

In a move that is shaking the foundation of the music industry, classic record labels Jive Records and Arista Records have closed up shop leaving talent like American Idol winner Lee DeWyze out in the cold.

Crystal Bowersox and Lee DeWyze in 'AMERICAN IDOL'

Parent company RCA Records will assume coverage of the two closed label’s artists including Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake.  But Season 9 American Idol winner Lee DeWyze will not be part of the merger of talent as he was released from his agreement by Jive Records.

Massive layoffs from the two companies have already taken place leaving a lot of music people out of work.  Some have moved out to join Peter Gray as he takes over Warner Records in Los Angeles.  But the closure of these two major record labels and brands created by legendary music mogul Clive Davis is a major loss for the industry.

All talent remaining on the roster will be branded under the RCA name which of course is even more deeply set in the music industry than Jive or Arista.  RCA goes all the way back to Frank Sinatra so this is a great music label name.

Some great names over the years on Jive and Arista included Pink, Usher, Whitney Houston, Aretha Franklin and Barry Manilow.

‘Touch’ Kiefer Sutherland’s Return to FOX (Video)

October 6th, 2011 No comments

If the promotional video you’re about to watch is anything like the totality of the new drama Touch coming next spring to FOX, the network may have another winner on its broadcast schedule.  And Kiefer Sutherland, on his return to FOX after many years of Jack Bauer on 24, looks solid as expected in the series hyped as big as Terra Nova.

Kiefer Sutherland and David Mazouz in the FOX Series 'Touch'

http://bcove.me/zfcqxwpb

Touch could be quite engaging.  For viewers and those of us that are slowly liking shows like Unforgettable or A Gifted Man are shows that take you to a new level of drama yet both shows do a great job so you get interested in their content.  Touch is another one of those programs.

Kiefer Sutherland is Martin Bohm, the single father of an 11 year old son with special instincts.  His son Jake (David Mazouz) is mute but apparently brilliant and can see in to the future.  After many previous attempts to communicate with him, Bohm finds that his 11 year old is special beyond all comprehension.

And there you have your series, Touch.

Check out the trailer.  It looks pretty good.

‘Whitney’ and ‘New Girl’ Plus Two Other Comedies Get More Air Time

October 6th, 2011 No comments

Well that didn’t take long.  Comedies seem to be king this week in the pickup department on a few networks that really need some fresh juice in that genre.

Whitney Cummings new comedy gets the chance to showcase more of her talent in front of the camera on NBC.  Whitney is simply fantastic.  She gets a full season pickup. In the behind the scenes category for the comedienne, Whitney Cumming’s produced CBS comedy 2 Broke Girls will also see more airtime on the network.  I’m a bit lukewarm on this show and really think anything following Two and a Half Men gets a huge pass but 2 Broke Girls did drop significantly in its second week.

Zooey Deschanel in the FOX Comedy 'New Girl'

NBC also ups on Up All Night for a full season order as did the new FOX comedy New Girl which is second to Whitney as a new show in that genre this season.  I’m still not completely sold on Up All Night as that show struggles to make me laugh.

The one show on NBC that we sent to the canceled bin after the first episode was the Hank Azaria comedy Free Agents.  That to me was just put on the air because someone must have been related to someone else at NBC because that show as simple awful.  Two jokes that make you laugh in a half hour…well whoever put this show on the air should be fired.  What they saw in Free Agents, at least this version, couldn’t have been successful on local cable access.

As you can tell it really ticks me off when shows are put on the air that just stink.  Free Agents stunk up television.

NBC also canceled The Playboy Club which after watching just the promotional spots for this show also had canceled bin written all over it.

Steve Jobs 1955-2011

October 6th, 2011 No comments

President Obama’s comments on Steve Jobs:

“Michelle and I are saddened to learn of the passing of Steve Jobs. Steve was among the greatest of American innovators – brave enough to think differently, bold enough to believe he could change the world, and talented enough to do it.

By building one of the planet’s most successful companies from his garage, he exemplified the spirit of American ingenuity. By making computers personal and putting the internet in our pockets, he made the information revolution not only accessible, but intuitive and fun. And by turning his talents to storytelling, he has brought joy to millions of children and grownups alike. Steve was fond of saying that he lived every day like it was his last. Because he did, he transformed our lives, redefined entire industries, and achieved one of the rarest feats in human history: he changed the way each of us sees the world.

The world has lost a visionary. And there may be no greater tribute to Steve’s success than the fact that much of the world learned of his passing on a device he invented. Michelle and I send our thoughts and prayers to Steve’s wife Laurene, his family, and all those who loved him.”

On the List for the Greatest Commercial Ever, Carlsberg Beer (Video)

October 4th, 2011 No comments

So our peeps over at TV Week have always helped us show some great content from a video standpoint and they’ve done it again.  Not sure if this if for real or not, though it surely does look it as some innocent moviegoers get the most horrible experience in their lives.

This is so for real.

Just imagine walking in to a movie theater full of about 150 white guys who look like they should be in an episode of Sons of Anarchy.  Some of the couples just turn around and walk out while others stay no matter what the element in the gallery.

What’s funny is the one African American couple that basically says we paid for this movie and we’re here to stay.  To hell with these crazy white boys.  But this is one of the best commercials ever.

Watch and enjoy!

Lifetime Gets Anne Heche into ‘Girl Fight’ Do Over Closure on Amanda Knox (Videos)

October 4th, 2011 No comments

Cyber bullying is no joke.  It actually sucks that kids these days are so lost in space that they have to resort to this type of activity.  Personally I think, no matter what age, these cyber bullies should be put in prison.  See if they survive the bullying once they get behind bars.  Ask Amanda Knox.  I’m sure she’s got some great stories about bullying in an Italian prison.

Girl Fight on Lifetime with James Tupper, Jodelle Ferland and Anne Heche looks at cyber bullying and how it effects these kids who get involved in the activity.  It’s not pretty.

This is a blog story about both cyber bullying and the end of the Amanda Knox saga.  And Lifetime cable network is highlighting cyber bullies and re-working the Amanda Knox story.

Let’s start with Girl Fight the new movie on Lifetime.  Anne Heche stars in this project that looks at the life of 16 year old Haley Macklin (Jodelle Ferland) who wants to get in to the cool girl group but things go horribly wrong in her effort to fit in with them.  She posts a negative message on a social networking site about the cool girls and the rush is on for payback on her comments.  They beat her up with the goal of putting that whipping online but her parents and the law get involved.

Yes a typical Lifetime movie effort.

Heche plays the Mom (Melissa) and James Tupper plays Dad (Ray) in Girl Fight.  Which of course turns in to a girl mess.  It’s running on Lifetime now.

Hayden Panettiere and Paolo Romio in ‘Amanda Knox: Murder on Trial in Italy’

On the Amanda Knox story, there’s a re-edit in place.  Now that she’s free after four years of being accused of murder, the Lifetime movie will need to put on a new ending.  Amanda Knox: Murder on Trial in Italy will go back to the edit bay to put in the ending where she was set free.  Those edits will air before and after the movie according to the Los Angeles Times.
