She left ‘The Today Show’ because she didn’t get the co-host slot after Katie Couric left and was replaced by Meredith Vieira.  She also filled in on ‘NBC Nightly News’ as anchor and no one thought that moving to CNN was a good career move.

In fact it became a career ender for her at CNN.

Campbell Brown has asked to be let out of the rest of her contract with the cable network.  CNN has gone through a massive shift in viewers since the Presidential election when all news all the time was the phrase of the day.  And with the emergence of a Democratic President and all those who don’t like his policies, CNN lost another massive number of users to FOX News Channel.

Fast forward to today and CNN is a cable network in turmoil.  And she’s going out with class as in a statement Brown says ”that not enough people want to watch my program, and I owe it to myself and to CNN to get out of the way so that CNN can try something else.”

Vanessa Williams Now Desperate as in ‘Housewives’

May 20th, 2010 No comments

Vanessa Williams

Wisteria Lane is going to have some real competition.  TV Guide says Vanessa Williams will be moving to the ‘hood’ this upcoming season so you know this will get husbands and boyfriends, well in a frenzy with her as a neighbor.

Vanessa will be a series regular so that she can have ample opportunity to make a mess on the Lane.  Producer Marc Cherry told TV Guide “I’m a big fan of Vanessa’s work and I’m so excited that she’ll be moving into the neighborhood next season to cause trouble in all the ladies’ lives.”

Craig Kilborn Back to TV with ‘The Kilborn File’

May 19th, 2010 No comments

Craig Kilborn

FOX owned stations are doing it again.  First Wendy Williams, the former radio deejay, got her shot at a daytime television show with a test last summer.  And that got her out of radio with a new career as a talk host.  Now we go at it again as comedian Craig Kilborn gets the same shot beginning on June 28th with a new half hour program that will be part talk show, part funny and part topic of the day.

‘The Kilborn File’  gets a six week run Monday through Friday on FOX stations in Los Angeles, New York, Philadelphia, Boston, Phoenix, Austin and Detroit.

Seems a bit more ‘Comedy Central’ but we want to see the show before we banish this to cancellation heaven.

CBS Says “See Ya” to ‘Cold Case’ and ‘Miami Medical’

May 19th, 2010 No comments
Kathryn Morris, 'Cold Case'...

Kathryn Morris, 'Cold Case'...

We used to call these ‘bad days at Black Rock.”  Black Rock was the headquarters of CBS at 52nd and 6th Avenue in New York and when you got canceled in that building, well you got canceled.

Jerry Bruckheimer lost two weekly hours on CBS.  ‘Cold Case’ and ‘Miami Medical’ which are two of the star producer’s programs got dumped by CBS.  ‘Cold Case’ was on the bubble and there was life up in them thar hills for a minute for this show.  ‘Miami Medical’ just got no play on Friday nights and the cancellation countdown was on the timer for that show.

Graphic ‘Texting While Driving’ Ad Coming to American Television

May 18th, 2010 No comments

texting-while-driving

This is one of those interesting decisions to make.  Do you watch this ad or turn it off?  Well if you’ve driven for even 15 minutes on any highway in America, you will see some jerk either texting or with a cell phone in his or her ear while operating a motor vehicle.

In fact to even watch this ad on YouTube you will have to be 18 years or older which quite frankly seems relatively stupid since this is prom and graduation time.  But this is the original ad ran over four minutes which you will be able to view here.

A 30 second version will run on American television which will not even tell the story as the long playing commercial does which was produced in the UK.  AAA had been working for a full year to get permission to run it and now TV stations in South Carolina will be airing it but only after 9PM.

The police department in Wales produced the four minute plus commercial.

Paul Reiser from ‘Mad About You’ Returning to Television so Watch Video

May 17th, 2010 No comments

He’s been nominated for and Emmy and a Golden Globe and since the ever popular series ‘Mad About You’ ran on NBC he’s stayed pretty quiet until now.  ‘The Paul Reiser Show’ is coming to NBC and this could be fun. Here’s the storyline on this comedy.

Helen Hunt and Paul Reiser, 'Mad About You'...

Helen Hunt and Paul Reiser, 'Mad About You'...

Paul Reiser plays, well, Paul Reiser.  It’s been a few years since the show got canceled and now he’s chilling at home with his wife who has a group of friend whose husbands are forced to chill with Paul.

Of course he doesn’t want to…

And he is also stuck with his kid’s friends dads who become his friends as well.  So this middle aged guy is now trying to figure out his life with people he probably would prefer not to be around.

Does ‘Men of a Certain Age’ pop up here?

This partnership with these friends come together and forms a basketball team of all things.  Duane Martin Ben Shenkman and Amy Landecker are part of the cast.

‘Heroes’ and ‘Romantically Challenged’ Canceled, Joely Richardson Out of ABC Drama

May 17th, 2010 No comments

joelyrichardson1

Lots of bad news here for Twitter fans.  The NBC scifi drama that kept NBC on the map for a minute during the last few years is going away.  ‘Heroes’ has been canceled and Alyssa Milano’s short run series ‘Romantically Challenged’ has been shown the exit as well on ABC.

Is there a Twitter revolution about to begin?

‘Heroes’ just fell victim to high production costs and ratings that just kept falling.  And with NBC in the midst of a full conversion of their prime time schedule, new blood on the network well is new blood.

And ‘Romantically Challenged’ had a lot of challenges as well since ABC did an absolutely crappy job of promoting this show.  Being on the air was television’s best kept secret and very little media beyond on air ABC promotions was done.  Twitter fans united as well to help save this show.  Sorry.  There’s very little room for failure at ABC and you can count on one hand how many episodes of Milano’s show ran.

The most disappointing news comes from a new series from ABC called ‘The Whole Truth’ which was to star Joely Richardson.  ‘The Tudors’ and ‘Nip/Tuck’ favorite has dropped out of the show citing personal reasons.  Joely wants to spend more time with her family after the passing of her aunt Lynn Redgrave, uncle Corin and her sister Natasha Richardson.

Charlie Sheen Stays with ‘Two and a Half Men’

May 17th, 2010 No comments

Charlie Sheen and wife Brooke Mueller -

Charlie Sheen and wife Brooke Mueller -

CBS is very happy.  Very happy.  Charlie Sheen, who may have to do some community work after threatening to slice his wife, is staying on for two more seasons with the network’s show ’Two and a Half Men.’

In a statement from his publicist, Sheen stated “to put a fitting end on the two and one-half months of whirlwind speculation, I’m looking forward to returning to my CBS home on Monday nights. ”

Leslie Moonves is the overpaid big boss running CBS.

Still to be determined is exactly what Sheen will be making per episode but he went in to negotiations wanting $2,000,000 per show.  Producers wanted a mill per show but figure on somewhere in the middle.

Be sure there’s a morals clause in this agreement that will eliminate any part of that agreement if Sheen reaches for the kitchen knives again.

‘Family Feud’ Moving Production from Los Angeles to Orlando

May 16th, 2010 No comments

First they get a new host in Steve Harvey.  Now the show does Steve Harvey a big favor with a change in scenery for the production of TV game show ‘Family Feud.’

Phoenix Suns forward Grant Hill and Feud current host John O'Hurley-

Phoenix Suns forward Grant Hill and Feud current host John O'Hurley-

Steve Harvey produces his radio show in Atlanta which makes travel a lot easier to Universal Studios in Orlando.  Commuting to Florida rather than from Atlanta to Los Angeles will be a breeze for the new host.  And with a built in audience at this massive theme park, getting audience members and even contestants will be a lot easier on producers of the show.

Plus the tax credits don’t hurt the production team.  Florida along with other states are cutting show makers huge breaks to move production out of Los Angeles to other areas.  L.A. has lost a slew of programs normally shot in the city because of those tax deals.
