‘Smallville’ Ends its Run on The CW, FOX Cancels ‘The Wanda Sykes Show’

Superman has met its Kryptonite.  It’s called The CW.  ‘Smallville’ will end a 10 year run this season.  The show has been on the so called bubble of programs to be canceled over the last several years.  And when it was moved to Friday nights…well you know that story.  That usually signals the end of the road when a show is banished to Friday night.

Also FOX has said “bye-bye” to ‘The Wanda Sykes Show’ which aired late night Saturday on the network.  The show started off pretty strong but was not creative enough to hold the solid beginning.  Quite franly ‘MadTV’ outperformed ‘The Wanda Sykes Show’ and should never have been removed from the FOX Saturday night lineup.  But it’s was a lot cheaper to produce her show with limited talent fees as with ‘MadTV.’

Plus her show really wasn’t that funny.

Tyler Posey in 80′s Classic ‘Teen Wolf’ Series Coming to MTV

May 23rd, 2010 No comments

MTV is getting in to the werewolf business.  Why not?  The CW is loaded with vampires and werewolves well are cooler than vampires, right?

Tyler Posey...

The 80′s classic movie is being re-made as television series on MTV.  ‘Teen Wolf” will be putting together 12 original episodes as production on the series will begin this summer.

Who’s the werewolf?  Tyler Posey from ABC’s ‘Brothers and Sisters’ is taking that role playing ‘Scott McCall.’  Dylan O’Brien plays his best friend ‘Stiles’ along with Crystal Reed plays ‘Allison’ the new girl in town.  Tyler Hoechlin form ’7th Heaven’ plays the old school werewolf in the series.

For trivia fans Michael J. Fox played the original ‘Teen Wolf’ back in 1985.  And there was a ”Teen Wolf Too’ production as well which featured Fox’s cousin Jason Bateman.

Paula Abdul to Judge’s Seat on CBS Show ‘Got To Dance’

Miss Paula is back in business so says The Hollywood Reporter.  The person who Simon Cowell says is the reason why ‘American Idol’ has lost audience this year is going to bring her judge skills to the new ‘Got To Dance’ on CBS.

‘Got To Dance’ has been a smash for Britain’s ‘Sky 1′ and is the top pay TV show on the network.  So you can be just one person or a group of dancers who can compete on the CBS version of the show.  The best of all competing will perform live during the semi finals and finals when it gets to that point during the series.

Still no word out on Simon’s new ‘X Factor’ show and whether Paula will be part of that program.  With ‘Got To Dance’ she will not only sit at the judge’s table but will executive producer, creative partner, mentor and coach.

‘Lost’ Long Play Finale Qualifies for ‘Emmy’

May 23rd, 2010 No comments

Matthew Fox from 'Lost'...

Matthew Fox from 'Lost'...

The final episode of the really anticipated series ‘Lost’ has been qualified for an Emmy by the Board of Governors for the Television Academy.  The last episode comes in at #55 for audience levels for a network television finale.  13 million plus viewers did tune in but that number pales in comparison to the number one show for finales as ‘MASH’ brought in over 105 million watchers.

Now this is a rule change for the Academy.  Because the finale ran over two hours it now qualifies for the award.

Pop Singer Katy Perry’s ‘California Gurls’ is ‘The CW’ This Summer

May 22nd, 2010 No comments

Katy Perry

This song is so cool!  If you’re like me and that being slightly out of the age group to be seen at a Katy Perry concert but cool enough to download it to your Ipod, then believe me you will think it’s cool too.  And now Katy Perry’s smash hit ‘California Gurls’ will become the marketing them for The CW’s summer marketing campaign.

How brilliant!

The CW is launching a couple of new shows this fall they being ‘Hellcats’ and ‘Nikita.’  And one of the shows coming this summer is a reality show ‘Plain Jane’ which is one of those makeover programs that everybody likes.

Plus The CW is really becoming a real network with 10 hours of original programs this fall.  Anyway check out Katy Perry’s YouTube Channel and listen to ‘California Gurls’ cause this will be a club hit for those in the right age group.  For us a bit older, perfect for playing in your car or while you’re working out at the gym.

And check out the videos for ‘Hellcats’ and ‘Nikita’ along with ‘Plain Jane’ as well.

Cops Kill Kid During Raid in Taping of ‘The First 48′

May 21st, 2010 No comments

This is sad.  And a sad reality for reality television.  A&E was following Detroit city police for a taping of the reality show ‘The First 48′ when a 7 year old kid got in the way during a cop raid on home as they sought a murder suspect.

Expect the lawyers to be in a frenzy on this one.  Stupid cops.

the-first-48

Following police around with a camera is nothing new with the 20 plus years of ‘Cops’ on FOX.  But this one goes to the heart of the question of overzealous cops and how they react when on camera.  When a kid gets killed, that, well sucks.

According to an Associated Press article some local police departments are no longer allowing cameras to partner with their members because of such liability issues.

This kid’s family should sue the hell out of the city of Detroit.  And although Mayor Dave Bing, who replaced the former low life Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick, is the best thing that has happened to Detroit in about a century, this is a reality nightmare for his city.

Just to put a face on this story, the 7 year old kid’s name was Aiyana Stanley-Jones.

We’re done with this horrible story so we’ll let the Associated Press take if from here.

Check Out Video, ‘The Whole Truth’ New Legal Drama Coming to ABC

Joely Richardson and Rob Morrow...

Too bad Joely Richardson has to leave this show.  Cause she looks really good and does an even better job as the prosecutor in ABC’s new legal drama ‘The Whole Truth.’  Fresh off of ‘The Tudors’ and ‘Nip/Tuck’ Richardson works against former FBI dude Rob Morrow from ‘Numb3rs’ who now represents the defense in this new program.

Check out our article on Joely who had to leave the show due to personal issues.  But Wednesday night’s could become very competitive with the ABC addition of ‘The Whole Truth.’

And guess who is behind this new drama?  Yep Jerry Bruckheimer one more time.  Let’s go to the videotape!

Oscar Winning Jamie Foxx Producing ‘Miss Philly’ Cop Drama for TNT

May 21st, 2010 No comments

Jamie Foxx

Great news for Jamie Foxx.  The Oscar grabbing actor/comedian/musician might as well add producer to his credits and will be headed to the ‘City of Brotherly Love’ to take on the new cop drama ‘Miss Philly’ set to air on TNT.

The new show looks at Philly and their new African American Police Chief who happens to be a woman.  The drama takes viewers from Main Line of suburban Philadelphia to the inner city.  This marks the return of production to the city which was the home of the just canceled ‘Cold Case’ on CBS.

No talent yet named but Foxx is expected not only to produce but write parts of the TNT show.

Watch the Video of Jerry Bruckheimer’s New Series ‘Chase’ on NBC

May 21st, 2010 No comments

OK so he’s had a couple of cancellations along the way over the last several weeks.  ‘Cold Case’ and ‘Miami Medical’ went bye bye for Jerry Bruckheimer but that won’t stop the genius producer from putting more content on television.  Welcome to ‘Chase’ on NBC.

Kelli Giddish, 'Chase'...

Kelli Giddish, 'Chase'...

This could be pretty cool as ‘Chase’ focuses on a team of U.S. marshals hunting down fugitives.  Kelli Giddish is Annie Frost, one of the marshals along with Cole Hauser, Amaury Nolasco from ‘Prison Break’ and Jesse Metcalf from ‘Desperate Housewives.’   But after watching this trailer, we’re not overly impressed by this one at first glance.

CNBC “First in Business Worldwide” to Run Friday Movie Night

"Greed is good"...Gordon Gekko, 'Wall Street'...

OK if you can believe this one then anything is possible in television.  This network that bills itself as the “First in Business Worldwide” is adjusting its programming to run movies on Friday night.

Really?  CNBC?  Get out!

Yes this is for real.  ‘CNBC Cinema’ is following the strategy of their sister network The Weather Channel and will begin to run movies every Friday night.  For now it’s just for the summer but if they are smart this will be a really money saving format change for the business network.

  http://twitter.com/realtvcritics

Better than any show with Donny Deutsch, who spent most of his time fixing his hair during his short lived show on CNBC.  Some of the movies include ‘ Wall Street’ and ‘The Thomas Crown Affair’ but if you’d like to see the full list and dates check out the link below.
