‘The Guiding Light’ shines no more, ‘As the World Turns’ stops spinning and ‘Days of Our Lives’ has run out of life on daytime television. And SOAPnet was the place soap fans could catch reruns and updates on their favorite shows past and present.
The people who own SOAPnet read the news about the decline of the soap opera genre and have decided to kill off the cable network in 2012. SOAPnet will go away and the network will turn itself in to Disney Junior.
Disney Junior will be the full time operation of ‘Playhouse Disney’ which you can find now on the Disney Channel. So that spinoff will be a 24 hour channel targeted to kids between 2 and 7 years of age.
OK here’s your chance at stardom. Do they still call it stardom? By whatever name you choose, Oprah Winfrey’s new OWN network is looking to find America’s next TV star.
This reality competition is called ‘Your OWN Show: Oprah’s Search for the Next TV Star’ and auditions start on June 5th in New York. Moving then to Dallas, Los Angeles and Atlanta. And Kohl’s Department stores is the location for these auditions as they are the sponsor of this new reality show. You can also audition online by going to Oprah.com and uploading a three minute video of yourself.
There’s an editing toolkit to make yourself look real good and you can get tips from Lisa Ling, Peter Walsh and will.i.am to make an impressions on the judges. You can go to Oprah.com for more details on this one that no doubt will be pretty popular.
This OWN thing from the Queen of Daytime is going to be big.
Well this ABC Family thing is growing up. Quickly. The well reviewed, albeit low rated yet very well produced ‘Friday Night Lights’ on NBC has been picked up in the syndicated market to air on ABC Family.
Madison Burge is Becky Everheart and Taylor Kitsch is Tim Riggins in 'Friday Night Lights'...
Confusing? Yes, though we must note for all of you TV viewers that networks do tend to work together on deals like this on a regular basis. ‘Friday Night Lights’ has been the on again off again Friday night series about football in a small Texas town. And if you know the show the main focus is on the growth of the characters and not football which makes it a very good program to watch.
ABC Family will have the rights to air all five seasons coming from ‘Lights’ and will start with Season one in September. Season four can currently be seen now. On Friday night of course and on NBC.
So here’s our motto. If Bravo decides to do a reality show and it involves those meat-heads, you know, the Salamis. Or the Sopranis or what are they, who are they, yeah, the Salahi’s, well we won’t write any more stories about Bravo.
Why The Today Show continues to ruin my morning with these wackos is beyond entertainment. Stevie Wonder can see their game and idiot, moronic segment producers keep putting them on TV.
Anyway a show we like is headed to D.C. Closely followed by the Salami’s no doubt. ‘Top Chef: Washington D.C.” starts on Bravo on June 16th when 17 new cheftestants compete one more time during season seven of this popular series. Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosiwill be on along with MSNBC host Joe Scarborough and a bunch of other politicos will make appearances during this summer’s run.
Pelosi and Scarborough? Damn, let’s go get Tareq and Michaele Salahi.
You might kiss the police chief of Detroit off to a new city after Dave “Bingo” Bing, the city’s Mayor, used the term “aggressive” in describing top cop Warren Evans.
“Bingo” is not a game. “Bingo” was his name when Mayor Dave Bing was the starting point guard for the Detroit Pistons of the NBA. The announcer would holla “Bingo!” when the man named one of basketball’s 50 best players and an NBA Hall of Famer scored bigtime at Cobo Arena in downtown Detroit back in the 1970’s.
Now as Mayor Bing, after the mess created by low life former Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick, the former NBA great is banning film crews from following around Detroit city cops after the death of a 7 year old during a raid.
A&E’s ‘The First 48′ was shadowing the raid and the 7 year old was shot and killed. These dumb cops in the dumbest city in America threw a flash grenade inside the house where the little girl was sleeping hoping to catch a murder suspect. In a struggle a cops gun went off striking Ayana Stanley-Jones in the neck. She was dead on arrival when taken to a hospital.
Bing told The Detroit News that Chief Evans is still transitioning from being an elected official to his new position and that a Deputy Mayor is working with the Chief to chill him out on his kamikaze style police approach.
Raquel "Raq-C" Cordova, Jenni Rivera and Janney "Chiquis" Marin -
“I have always wanted to be the Mexican Oprah Winfrey” says singer Jenni Rivera speaking with The Hollywood Reporter. And now she’s well on her way to making her mark on Spanish speaking television as she begins work on shows for both Telemundo and Univision.
One of the shows will be interactive for now. The Webnovela ‘No Me Hallo (Finding Myself)’ will be Jenni’s first real shot at acting. And then of course we all know that reality television is big on Telemundo and Univision as Jenni will put together such programming on T’s younger skewing network mun2 Network. ‘Jenni Rivera presents Chiquis and Raq-C’ (pictured) which follows two young, strong Latina ladies and their efforts to make their way in the world.
The cat on that Zyrtec commercial could have predicted this one.
The cougar that was supposed to be photographed with Kim Cattrall from ‘Sex in the City 2′ for the cover of some women’s magazine that she turned down because she doesn’t consider herself a cougar could have forecast this one.
Gleeks unite and cheer. ‘Glee’ is coming back to FOX for season three. Not a huge story but it is ‘Glee’ and it is the most popular show on FOX since the start of ‘American Idol.’ And every A through C performer wants to be on this show.
L to R:Heather Morris, Amber Riley, Chris Colfer, Kevin McHale and Jenna Ushkowitz...
Plus ‘Glee ‘ is television’s highest rated new show.
So that was an easy decision for FOX. Yeah, a cat and a cougar.
We talk about Jay Leno. Conan O’Brien. Who else? Wanda Sykes, George Lopez, Bonnie Hunt and Oprah. The number one host that no one talks about, until now, is Murray the Monster Puppet.
Yep, your kids have made a star out of Murray the Monster Puppet on PBS’s long running show ‘Sesame Street.’ And can you believe this show has been on the air for 40 years?
Elmo, Deal or No Deal Girls and Oscar The Grouch...
It’s not easy being green.
The kids control the TV sets when ‘Sesame Street’ airs. It’s pre-schoolers favorite show. With a new look and an all new format bringing in 60% more rugrats viewing the show over the last year and 14 Emmy nominations.
More ‘Sunny Days’ lie ahead for one of television’s perennial classic programs. Good television is good television and ‘Sesame Street’ has from year one been better than good.
Now that that the show is done and he’s the top guy beating out Holly Robinson Peete for the 2010 ‘Celebrity Apprentice’ title, the real world jumps back in on rocker Bret Michaels.
The former lead singer of the rock band Poison has gone through a lot of medical issues. That’s what happens when the party is over after years of abusing your body in the music business. He’ll have surgery in the fall to repair a problem with his heart according to Access Hollywood.
Bret Michaels and Holly Robinson Peete...
The guy has fought diabetes. And a brain hemorrhage which took him off the show this year. Only to see him return from the last mentioned issue to be part of the ‘Celebrity Apprentice’ finale. His doctors told him not to travel for the last show but remember Bret Michaels is a rocker and in life you keep on rockin’ cause you only rock once!
OK we embellish but this guy, returning from a really tough year medically, deserves all the props he can get from all of us.
The show will be re-branded and there’s going to be several changes to the format. Actually the 2011 version is bringing back all former living Miss America winners. But the pageant that spent the last five years living on cable’s CMT and TLC is returning to ABC.
U.S. Marine, 2010 Miss America Caressa Cameron and NFL Analyst Steve Mariucci...
The ‘Miss America Pageant’ is headed back to ABC next January 15th according to the Associated Press. The deal is for three years and executives of the show say it’s the “best deal” Miss America has had since ABC dropped it for low ratings.
‘Miss America’ turns 90 years old when it airs in 2011. That’s the reason behind bringing all living winners back for the event in January. You can read more from the Associated Press.
