Boston Celtics Broadcasts Need to Retire Tired, Old, Biased Team Icon Tommy Heinsohn
Last night was an embarrassment for the Boston Celtics. In more ways than what you watched what probably was the worst performance for this team in history. The Celtics made the Indiana Pacers look like world champions last night. The Pacers are a much improved team, no question. And if last night is an indication of the future of the Pacers franchise life will be good in the state that beget some big names including Pacers boss Larry Bird.
But last night was a complete disaster for the Celtics. And watching the broadcast voice by local Boston announcer Mike Gorman and Celtics legend Tommy Heinsohn was one of the most disgusting broadcasts I’ve ever watched and listened to in my life as a true basketball fan.
“Eddie F. Rush…Oh God! Awwww…I had dealings with Eddie F. Rush at Madison Square Garden in the (Robert) Parish years,” complained and looking back to the old days did Tommy Heinsohn after what he though was a bad call.
It wasn’t.
Celtics forward/center Jermaine O’Neal did push Pacers center Roy Hibbert on the play Heinsohn was whining about.
And like your viewing audience wants to go back to the Robert Parish days in the 90′s. Most are asking who the hell is Robert Parish?
I don’t mind the second chair of a broadcast team being a homer. That’s a guy that overly supports the team he or she pretty much is employed by to be part of the broadcasts. But Tommy Heinsohn turned in one of the most despised performances I’ve ever viewed by essentially grilling, toasting and quite frankly wrongly roasting referee Eddie F. Rush during last night’s broadcast.
Yeah, it’s time for the National Basketball Association and the Boston Celtics to retire Tommy Heinsohn to his couch for his ignorant comments during last night’s broadcast. He was simply and entirely out of line and totally the worst of the worst in sports broadcast history.
I don’t give a damn about him being a Boston Celtic icon. He sucked last night. Absolutely sucked. And what’s even worse for his efforts as a homer is that blaming everything on one coach and delving back in to the past where 90% of the viewing audience could care less is a reason for him to be fired.
Tommy Heinsohn need to be fired. Immediately for his inappropriate, unprofessional and personally damaging comments made about referee Eddie F. Rush last night. Not only damaging to Rush’s career but to his safety. Just for the record, Eddie F. Rush is the only referee in the NBA to officiate the final game of an NBA Finals game for four straight years beginning in 2005.
Which means he’s pretty good Tommy Heinsohn. And means you have not clue what the hell you’re talking about.
Tommy Heinsohn should know that and his stupid comments for someone at his level of being a great NBA player and coach should be overly sanctioned by the NBA.
Today, Tommy Heinsohn is nothing more than a crabby, old man and should be pulled away from a microphone. It may sound good to the fans in Boston but it’s a safety issue for a man who is one of the more respected referees in professional sports.
Hey we all hate the refs in any sport, no question. But the Boston Celtics as a team sucked last night Tommy Heinsohn and for you to be a jerk and blame the fact that your team is old and slow on the refs is an embarrassment and the NBA should send you to your home to watch the games and reminisce about the way things were when you were a coach and player.
You gotta give the lead announcer and play by play guy Mike Gorman some props. “We don’t wanna go back…no we don’t,” said Gorman in his attempt to stop this moron Tommy Heinsohn from making any more of a fool of himself. Stopped him in his tracks before he even got more crabby, old and stupid. But for the NBA this is truly unacceptable. And an negative mark on the league because this is the typical South Boston thug mentality that is not needed in this league. NBA icon or not, he should be on his couch watching the History Channel. World War II overviews. In his underwear. No where near an NBA broadcast. Boston can do and be better.
