Watching ABC’s Robin Roberts Personal Saga, Now She Finds a Donor

June 13th, 2012 No comments

ABC’s Good Morning America is making some serious strides in the morning news/entertainment fight against NBC’s Today Show but that battle is nothing compared to the personal drama in the life of Robin Roberts.  The host who many of us watched make her bones on ESPN as a sports anchor is in another battle after her recent fight with the diagnosis of breast cancer.  Now the fight, more than likely caused by the breast cancer treatment, is with a malady called  myelodysplastic syndrome where Robin Roberts will have to undergo a bone marrow treatment for the disease she admits she’s never heard of.

Neither have most of us.

Robin Roberts and Nicki Minaj – “Good Morning America”

What’s good for Robin Roberts today is that she’s found a blood marrow  donor.  Most people don’t get that lucky.  Now she has another lead on life.  Which is good for Robin Roberts and good for ABC.  And good for Good Morning America.

Sounds pretty lame doesn’t it?

Yes it does but guess what?  With Good Morning America trailing NBC’s Today Show by a very slim margin and Robin Roberts a big reason for that challenge, there’s a new energy over at ABC for the morning ratings battle.  And as we all wish Robin Roberts good future tidings, this is a battle those of us in the entertainment business truly want to see.

Sounds cold?

As a cancer survivor those of us want everyone around us to let us get on with our lives.  And that means Robin Roberts wants to get past her next treatment for a disease I don’t even want to try to spell again and move on to continuing the effort to unseat the Today Show from their morning program perch.,

Good luck Robin Roberts on your treatment and the future of Good Morning America.

Great to Watch, NHL, NBA Playoffs and Noah’s Discover Card Day with the Stanley Cup (Video)

June 6th, 2012 No comments

There is no better time of the year.  The NHL Stanley Cup Finals between the Los Angeles Kings and the New Jersey Devils.  Can you beat the Oklahoma City Thunder of the National Basketball Association, all those young kids that have put that city on the map for many years to come with Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook.

There’s no better time of the year watching these playoff games on the NBC stations and cable group & the NBA on TNT, ABC and ESPN.

But it was hard Wednesday night.  A game in the Stanley Cup, the Thunder winners in the West and even a Philly guy had the Dodgers and Phillies to watch.  That’s a night for a sports dude.

But watching the intermission of the NHL contest between the Kings and the Devils brings one of TV’s great product integrations from Discover Card.  They have this thing called Discover Card Day with the Stanley Cup when they actually take the Stanley Cup, on Discover Card’s dime, to a winner who wanted to hang out with the actual trophy that has been the staple of the National Hockey League.

YouTube Preview Image

I could talk about what the content details.  It’s an amazing couple of minutes that I’m sure you will truly enjoy.  I did.  And I hate credit card companies to the max.  But for some reason I always liked the people at Discover Card.  Watch this and I think you might agree.  You can’t help but feel for a kid who has to live his life with his Dad protecting this country.  And every once in a while, with all of the crap that happens in this country…well it’s good to see Discover Card take us back to the country to meet regular folk in America.

We love great video content.   And this is great video content.  No more to say but watch the video.

AMC’s ‘The Walking Dead’ For Real? Zombie Attacks, A Zombie Apocalypse? (Video)

June 3rd, 2012 No comments

OK so we all know how really popular The Walking Dead has been for the past two seasons on the cable channel AMC.  But in the words of comedian Paul Mooney “this is a bit much.”  Yes there is more going on in Florida these days well ahead of the excitement of LeBron James and the Miami Heat.  They are calling the zombie attacks going on in that city the Zombie Apocalypse.

Yes the Zombie Apocalypse that is taking place in cities and states all across America is pretty much scaring the hell out of everyone and reminding every0ne that there could be the real The Walking Dead among us.

In fact Westlake Ace Hardware stores with locations just about everywhere but where an attack has taken place  has even started a “don’t be scared, be prepared” for a zombie attack and is recommending specific tools you should have should The Walking Dead actually happen in your city.  Here the scoop.

Tampa has been the scene of one gory so called zombie attacks which has started this whole zombie apocalypse if that’s what you want to call it.  In Tampa a naked man pretty much ate the face of another man.

Uh huh…

Then in Maryland college student told police that he killed a man and then took it upon his highly educated self to eat that man’s heart and part of his brain.

Uh huh…

Then there’s the dude in Jersey who decided that he was going to stab himself about 50 times then proceed to devour his own intestines and let us be reminded that it was not New Jersey Governor Chris Christie who has never passed up on a buffet in his entire life.

This really sounds like an episode of The Walking Dead on AMC doesn’t it?  Really that’s what they do on that show.  Eat people?  So is the show to blame or should we blame President Obama who we pretty much blame for everything these days?

Had to take a shot at him after the Chris Christie crack.

Anyway now the trend is to be prepared for an attack.  Check out the video and the link to the Westlake Ace Hardware stores where they actually have put together web content on being prepared for a zombie attack or the future chance of a zombie apocalypse.

The stories about the real attacks are pretty messy.  But the Westlake Ace Hardware thing is pretty funny.

Russell Brand Asks Katy Perry to Slice, Dice Him, In Her New Doc That Is

June 3rd, 2012 No comments

Is this part of the divorce decree?

Never will you hear anything like this request and certainly Judge Judy will not be taking this case because this would be so dumb of her honor to hear the Russell Brand versus Katy Perry clash about keeping him out of her upcoming documentary on her life.

Most would say who cares about a documentary on the life and times of Katy Perry but in this world of asking the question “who cares?” well you just have to realize that a lot of people actually do care about the life and times of Katy Perry.

Problem for Russell Brand.

Katy Perry

Katy Perry

And that’s not a question.  That’s a problem for Russell Brand because Russell Brand had one of those short term entertainment marriages to Katy Perry which most thought was going to fail the day the both said “I do.”

Russell Brand

Russell Brand

Now that Katy Perry’s Part of Me documentary is in post production, Russell Brand wants any mention of him in the doc removed because he thinks it will make him look bad.

Has Russell Brand ever looked in the mirror?

So The Sun newspaper over in the UK reports that a source close to Russell Brand says he would only do the filming if he had final say on the end result of what was to air.  Problem is Russell Brand and Katy Perry got divorced and it seems that all previous claims he has on that post production are off.

In other words, Katy Perry has raised her middle finger to Russell Brand on his request.  Yeah, that middle finger.  So now Katy Perry has complete control pretty much over everything in the production of Part of Me.

What’s that line about a woman scorned?

“Now that they have broken up she can keep whatever she wants in the film,” said that source.

Oh, can’t wait to see this documentary.

“I hate ‘Glee,'” Says New ‘America’s Got Talent’ Judge Howard Stern

June 3rd, 2012 No comments

Oh Howard  Stern, oh Howard Stern, what are you doing?  All of West Hollywood is in anger mode and will be even more on the prowl after tomorrow night’s episode of America’s Got Talent where the new judge made the comment “I hate Glee,” after the performance of a group of contestants during Monday’s airing.

Not good Howard, not good.

A lot of people like Glee.

Seems Howard Stern has done it again.  He’s used his shock jock radio persona and taken a shot at one of television’s most unique shows in this TV era of crappy reality shows offered by most networks.  But Howard Stern does well what Howard Stern does well and that’s pissing off a lot of people.

America’s Got Talent‘s Monday episode is from Tampa, Florida where Howard Stern made that comment about Glee after the performance of a local group called Inspire the Fire.  They certainly inspired the fire of Howard Stern to make that comment about Glee.   Inspire the Fire is a singing and dancing group so of course the outrageous Howard Stern compared them to the popular FOX  series Glee.

“I hate Glee but I love you,” said Howard Stern after Inspire the Fire performed.  Good thing is that the love for Inspire the Fire got them past Howard Stern and the other judges pushing them on to the next round on America’s Got Talent.

You should and expect that Howard Stern will get more and more vocal as he continues his first year on America’s Got Talent.  And he certainly should not expect to get a guest shot on Glee.

Pooch Hall Follows Tia Mowry, Leaving Cast of BET’s ‘The Game’ (Video)

June 3rd, 2012 Comments off

It is one of BET’s hottest shows and it is going through a major re-structuring when The Game starts production on series.  The cast of The Game is now losing Pooch Hall, one of the stars of the show following the announcement that Tia Mowry will also be dropped from The Game.

Season five of The Game is now airing on BET.  And Pooch Hall and Tia Mowry played husband and wife on the show but even as they leave The Game both are expected to make several appearances on future showsbut will not be part of the full time cast.  BET says the network “is in the process of re-working the casting and storyline” of The Game which of course is not unusual for a show after the length of time The Game has been on the air.

The Game aired originally on The CW and was canceled after three seasons on that fledgling network before being re-born on BET.  The cable network picked up the show after cancellation and turned it in to a massive hit on BET.

Pooch Hall is on his way over to another cable network.  Pooch Hall says he’s signed up to play a part in Showtime’s new series Ray Donovan which is the real reason behind Pooch Hall’s departure from The Game.  “Involvement on a new project,” is how Pooch Hall described his leaving the show on Twitter.

Richard Dawson, Host of ‘Family Feud’ and ‘Hogan’s Heroes’ Passes at 79

June 3rd, 2012 No comments

There have been many hosts of the TV game show Family Feud and without question its current lead guy Steve Harvey is probably the best.  After being a viewer of Family Feud for too many years to count, the second best was Richard Dawson.  Richard Dawson was called The Kissing Bandit as host of the show as Richard Dawson always kissed the female contestants during the years he hosted Family Feud.  Richard Dawson even went so far as to marry one of the contestants.

Richard Dawson passed away at the age of 79 from cancer.

Richard Dawson hosted Family Feud from 1976 to 1985.  And he was fantastic.  Richard Dawson also played a role in the highly rated TV comedy series Hogan’s Heroes, had a limited role in the series The Dick Van Dyke Show and was a regular on Laugh In another comedy.

Richard Dawson’s son Gary posted the passing of his father on Facebook.  “He was surrounded by his family.  He was an amazing talent, a loving husband, a great dad, and a doting grandfather.  He will be missed but always be remembered….”

Andy Samberg’s “incredibly emotional and strange moment” On Exit from ‘Saturday Night Live’ (Video)

June 2nd, 2012 No comments

Well down goes Andy Samberg, another name in the many past personalities that have left the NBC weekend program known as Saturday Night Live.  The comedian has confirmed what was speculated all week that he will be exiting the show after its current run to pursue more lucrative opportunities.

'SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE' - Rihanna, Eli Manning and Andy Samberg

During an interview with the New York Times, Andy Samberg told the publication that he would not return in the fall to Saturday Night Live.  “Obviously it’s not a huge shock, but I did officially decide not to come back,” he told the Times.  Andy Samberg has been with Saturday Night Live since 2005.  Which is a long time for talent to remain with the ongoing show that has created some great careers over its run on NBC.

“Something about it feels like it’s the moment,” Andy Samberg continued in the New York Times interview on leaving Saturday Night Live.

'SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE' - Kristen Wiig and Seth Meyers

Kristen Wiig had her big sendoff from the show as she begins her new career on the big screen as will Andy Samberg who will join Adam Sandler in the upcoming movie That’s My Boy.

“I did so much more than I ever thought I would ever do” on Saturday Night Live said Andy Samberg.

No This is Not a Los Angeles Dodgers Game But Those Fine San Antonio Spurs Fightin’ Fans (Video)

May 30th, 2012 No comments

You think Dodger Stadium is bad, right?  Well it is.  I call it “Thug Stadium” because it is one of what’s becoming a trend in watching live sports which is the reason I don’t go to Thug Stadium to see the Los Angeles Dodgers.  Too many thugs.  Just way too many thugs.  And this is the way they think.

They think they own the team.  Listen, I have a simple philosophy.  If my last name isn’t on the papers filed with the great state of California as owner and operator of the Los Angeles Dodgers, I ain’t getting in to a fight with some thug at Thug Stadium that drank one too many Bud Lights and sees himself as the owner of the team.

No way!

I remember one time I was shopping at Ralph’s Grocery store and I was wearing my Indiana Pacers Reggie Miller throwback jersey and some thug with Lakers swag walked up to me and said “the Pacers suck!”

YouTube Preview Image

Now I’ve been and Indiana Pacers fan for most of my life, all the way back to when they played in the American Basketball Association and Pacers forward Darnell Hillman was wearing a ‘bush’ hairstyle look.  Back to Fairgrounds Coliseum, Market Square Arena, the building that Reggie Miller and Rik Smits built.  To Conseco Fieldhouse and now Bankers Life Fieldhouse, I am a huge Pacers fan.

I looked at that kid after he said “the Pacers suck” and said to him “you know I agree with your assessment on the producttivity of the Indiana Pacers this year.  They suck.”

See, um, my last name is not Simon, I don’t own all of the Westfield Malls or the Mall of America in Minneapolis and I don’t own the Indiana Pacers so I’m not going to get in to a battle at a Ralphs with some kid half my age about the value of the Indiana Pacers or what they suck.

“You’re right, pal, you’re right,” is my attitude.

So here’s a group of new thugs.  Now in San Antonio, yes San Antonio has the sports thugs at San Antonio Spurs games.  You would have thought these people would be happy but nope, let’s rumble.

Next time I go to any sports event to watch live it had better be tennis.  Though some of those fans are getting rowdy these days too!
