Eriq La Salle Joins Television’s Best New Show, ‘A Gifted Man’

September 30th, 2011 No comments

This show keeps getting better and better.  This without question is television’s best new program.  OK for women.  TV’s best new program for dudes is Jim Cavaziel’s Prime Suspect. But A Gifted Man on CBS is worth staying home on Friday night.  In a television season that without question is the best for new shows in I can’t recall how many years, A Gifted Man is quality TV at its best and now Eriq La Salle is slated to join the show.

'The Game' and 'Burn Notice's Coby Bell with Eriq La Salle

Eriq La Salle will be in recurring episodes of A Gifted Man as medical investigator Evan Morrison.  Yes, Eriq will be playing a doctor one more time after his long time stint on E.R.

The concept of A Gifted Man pits Patrick Wilson who plays Dr. Michael Hope who gets a visit from his ex-wife who passed away after being hit by a car yet re-appears as a ghost who gets him to change his self centered life.

And the concept works extremely well.  Adding Eriq La Salle can only enhance this solid show.   A Gifted Man, Friday nights at 8PM on CBS.

Holly Madison Insures Her You Know Whats for $1,000,000 (Video)

September 30th, 2011 No comments

OK so do you want to guess?  Or should I just tell you?  Let me give you a couple of hints.  Holly Madison has two of them.

Now think now.

Her eyes?  Nope.  Her legs or arms?  Nah!  Her pair of ears?  Nope.  Reality television person, and I have decided to call these reality TV people “persons,” Holly Madison has insured her breasts for $1,000,000.

Um did I say breasts, you ask?  Yes, her breasts.

Holly Madison "The Showgirl Next Door: Holly Madison's Las Vegas" Book Signing at Sugar Factory in Las Vegas

Insurance company Lloyds of London is the company that put up the policy.  Can you imagine the first meeting?  With a bunch of nerdy insurance guys?  “You want to insure what?”  I’m sorry Miss Madison we have to confirm the existence of your breasts.

Holly Madison told People Magazine “I heard about people getting their body parts insured and I thought why not?”

Well, OK but why would you need your breasts insured?  Here’s why. Holly Madison is in a Las Vegas revue called Peepshow.  Where she has to bare all up top during certain parts of the show.  “If anything happened to my boobs, I’s probably be out a million dollars,” she told People.

My goodness, the stories we write.

“Are you my baby Daddy? There go my baby Daddy!” ‘Sperm Donor’ on Style Network (Video)

September 30th, 2011 No comments

So we missed this one.  Maybe because it’s Style Network and for the past couple of years of running this blog we may have only done one or two stories on the network.  In the land of America we have one trashy show on television focused on identifying the father of kids whose mothers have no clue who matches the DNA sample.

I always wonder how and why women can’t remember who they slept with.  Some people clearly are having more sexual contact than me and I’m trying to figure out my lack of activity.  Oh yeah, that’s right.  I went to college.

But we move on from The Maury Show to Style Network’s Sperm Donor.  Yes let me repeat Sperm Donor, a reality show Style Network where a guy that is the sperm donor, as in father to over 70 kids, tells his fiancee’ about his past life giving samples in a cup.

And this, yes, is a reality show.

All I can say is watch the video.  And comment for yourself.  This one is wild!

Great New Daytime TV Drama, The Michael Jackson/Conrad Murray Trial

September 28th, 2011 No comments

So here’s the scoop.  Daytime television, for all the new shows on the air, suck.  You have your solid mainstays that just keep on keeping on like Dr. Phil, Judge Judy, Regis & Kelly, Ellen, The View. But some of the new entries on the daytime schedule quite frankly make me want to watch soap operas or the news on KTLA or KCAL 9 in the afternoon here in Los Angeles.

But life is good.  At least life is good for me.  Maybe not for Dr. Conrad Murray who is currently on trial in this city for manslaughter in the death of superstar entertainer Michael Jackson.

I gotta tell ya yesterday’s start of the trial was so scintillating, fascinating and damned entertaining.  Now that may sound a bit gruesome but to hear the audio of Michael Jackson totally drugged out was absolutely voyeuristic. Amazing!

Day two is just as fantastic.  The personal assistant to Michael Jackson was on the stand today giving his account of the day the singer died and the guy who led the security detail for Michael Jackson is testifying now.  The amazing comment of the day was the testimony from the personal assistant that Dr. Murray wanted to get something to eat right after the singer died under his care.

KTLA is covering the trial gavel to gavel.  And NBC4 is airing it on their digital channel 4.2 which is called NBC California Nonstop.  It’s been on in my office all day long except for a couple of breaks for lunch and another reason.  Then I got a chance to see a little bit of Maury.  Finally a new episode on that show.

Dr. Conrad Murray

But this is great daytime TV.  I really can only give Anderson Cooper about a minute.  Bill Cunningham’s new show is a joke.  The Brit is kind of engaging but quite frankly that’s annoying now.  And then Gloria Allred’s new daytime judge show, although I love me some Gloria Allred, well I’ve seen Gloria, I’ve watched Gloria and she’s sure no Judge Judy.

This trial is good for KTLA.  Smart move to carry the trial from start to finish.  Because I’m totally in to this!

Ashton Kutcher’s Trouble Already at ‘Two and a Half Men’

September 28th, 2011 No comments

Well rumors have been flying around about Ashton Kutcher’s alleged flings with other women that have spawned talk of a split with Demi Moore.  There’s even the more recent chatter on the web about an incident with a woman in San Diego just this past weekend.

Now with him on the CBS show Two and a Half Men, the use of social media has got the actor in trouble with the network.

CBS is a tad bit ticked off that the actor was Tweeting and promoting content from several online companies that he has ownership interest.  During Monday night’s second episode featuring Kutcher, he apparently Tweeted positive content about how those companies that gave what he termed “laptop-sticker love on Two and a Half Men.’

Problem is CBS has no financial interest in Foursquare, Hipboard, Hipmunk or Chegg while Ashton Kutcher does.  To promote them is what could be termed “plugola” on Kutcher’s part so he could not only be in trouble with CBS but could also face an issue with the Federal Communications Commission.

Take it from an old school radio guy the word “plugola” brings back the vision of lawyers, congressional sub-committees, depositions and a long amount of sleepless nights.

Now CBS wants to get compensation from those four entities that Kutcher is promoting.

This is the second time Kutcher got himself in to simmering water as the FTC investigated him earlier this year for a similar “plugola” incident but declined to pursue anything further than a basic investigation.

Stay tuned.  Kutcher may get away with this activity for a moment from CBS but certainly won’t hide from the FCC.  They don’t play that stuff.  Nor does Demi on the story of the young girl Ashton may have spent time with in San Diego.

‘Terra Nova’ Quite Entertaining

September 27th, 2011 No comments

So after The X Factor tanked in the ratings and the coolest new quirky Zooey Deschanel has pretty much saved the network from having two new flops as New Girl is simply fantastic,  what would happen with the third and only other new show that interests me on FOX?  That’s the really hyped Terra Nova which I have to admit FOX may have another hit on their weekly schedule.

'Terra Nova' with : Elisabeth Shannon (Shelley Conn) and Cmdr. Taylor (Stephen Lang)

Terra Nova was pretty entertaining.  And easy to follow.  Watching this past summer’s sci-fi entry on TNT in Falling Skies, well I was not impressed.  At all.  Steven Spielberg’s input in the TNT program just didn’t pull it off but from start to finish, the two hour premiere of Terra Nova makes the mark.

Shows like this need a clear explanation from the beginning.  One that makes sense.  One that’s realistic and has a foundation that totally real.  How and why the settlers at Terra Nova came upon their new existence makes all the sense in their new world.

Stephen Lang leads the crew as Commander Nathaniel Taylor.  He is perfect in his role as the nicer guy doing the military work as he did in Avatar.  And Jason O’Mara from Life on Mars brings his whole Shannon family to Terra Nova.  O’Mara’s Jim Shannon with wife and three kids will be the focus of their new adventure that includes a group called “Sixes” who are the enemy humans and creatures from the past as the setting for Terra Nova.

Jim Shannon (Jason O'Mara), Elisabeth Shannon (Shelley Conn) and Zoe Shannon (Alana Mansour) explore 'Terra Nova'

FOX put a ton of money and promotion behind the show and it seems to have lived up to it billing as I rarely have the ability to sit and watch any single TV show for two hours.  A sci-fi drama that actually had me looking forward to zipping past the commercials and getting to the action and excitement in Terra Nova.

This one could be a winner.  Week two is always the test but I’m definitely interested in continuing the journey on Terra Nova.

Same Sex Liplock Get ‘The L Word’s Leisha Hailey, Partner Kicked Off Plane

September 27th, 2011 No comments

So as I wrote on one blog, who is the woman?  Rather than looking her up here we go with another episode of two people acting like an idiot or moron on a plane.  Once again, Southwest Airlines is the culprit according to The L Word actress Leisha Hailey.

Who is she?  Well she did 70 episodes of that show on Showtime but I wasn’t really in to lesbians then or now on my TV so I have no clue who this woman or her partner are?  But on a recent flight Hailey and her partner Camila Grey apparently put on a showy lip lock on a Southwest flight that got the attention of the crew and were taken off the plane prior to departure.

Leisha Hailey

“It was one modest kiss,” the couple said in a statement but flight attendants clearly disagreed and told the couple to chill.  They, of course, got angry with those crew members who then thought it best to remove Leisha Hailey and Camila Grey from the flight.

Other passengers who viewed the so-called “modest kiss” took offense to the actress and her partner’s activities and told the crew and the melee of conversation and chatter began.  The airline told the Hollywood Reporter “The conversation escalated to a level that was better resolved on the ground.”

In the same statement from Hailey and Grey they stated “We find it disturbing that the same airline who lauds itself as being LGBT friendly has twisted an upsetting incident that happened into our behavior being ‘too excessive.’ ”

These two women are idiots. LGBT friendly has it limits.  Meaning that having class on a plane is having class on a plane.  Two words for these two women.  No class.  Half this country is Republican, conservative and don’t like lesbians, gays, bi-sexuals or those in the transgender community.  Period.

In other words, don’t act like assholes on a plane.

A link to the Hollywood Reporter story is below along with my comments to others on that site about this incident.

Rick Thomas Blog Comments on the Hollywood Reporter:

First off, who are these two people?

Second if it was a “modest” kiss, they would never have been tossed from the plane. But then what is a “modest” kiss.  In other words nobody cares about a simple kiss.

Nobody.

So it had to be excessive.

Three why do passengers have to act like idiots on planes?  These two women clearly are idiots.  Put them in the same category as those three idiot hikers.  Meaning you don’t cross the line.  At any time or you get what these two women got.

Tossed.

At least not in prison as the three idiot hikers.

Personally I don’t want to see a heterosexual couple kissing on a plane.  Understand where you are and act like adults, not idiots.

Finally the LGBT community along with GLAAD need to realize that there are still a lot of people who don’t dig anything they want, say or want to be.  Those people are called the Republican Party and there are lot of them, like half this country.  Remember they like to boo gay members of the military at Republican debates.  That should be enough for those in the LGBT community to understand that in certain environments it may be a good idea to just chill.

Especially on a friggin’ plane.

No matter who you are or what you are, what category you fall within, doing the right, proper thing in public is about doing the right, proper thing in public.

You know what was cool about watching that new show Pan Am was seeing people wearing suits and dresses on the plane. There was an element of class when you got on a plane and you didn’t have to return to the 60′s to see that.  It wasn’t long ago when flying a plane was a classy experience.

No more.

Andy Rooney Retires from ’60 Minutes’

September 27th, 2011 No comments

He has been with CBS since 1948.  Just for those not good at match that makes him an employee at the network for over 60 years, right?  And his integration into the ever popular 60 Minutes show began in 1968 when the program first came on the network.

Andy Rooney from '60 Minutes'

Now at 92 years of age, Andy Rooney is calling it quits as the guy who ends the show with his quirky commentaries as he retires from 60 Minutes.

No real reason for the retirement and this Sunday will be his last as he will make the official announcement then.  “There’s nobody like Andy and there never will be,” said Jeff Fager, Chairman of CBS News and of 60 Minutes. “He’s an American original.”

Ballers Carmelo Anthony, Chris Bosh, Rapper Heavy D Spice Up ‘SVU’

September 26th, 2011 No comments

One thing you can’t put past producer Dick Wolf is his role of hitting the urban groove to spice up his Law & Order series of shows.  No matter what the topics, he seems to be one of the only top level producers who reach out to minority talent on a regular basis and now he’s doing it big time on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit Wednesday night.

Carmelo Anthony

Pro basketball players Carmelo Anthony of the New York Knicks and Chris Bosh of the Miami Heat pretty much have nothing else to do these days with the NBA lockout preventing them from preparing for the NBA season so why not get a gig acting.  Along with rapper Heavy D, the trio will star in the episode Personal Fouls on SVU.

Chris Bosh

Dan Lauria, who has had many roles on television but you probably know him from Wonder Years, will be a basketball coach accused of having inappropriate relationships with kids on his team.

Both ballers will appear in the opening segment of the episode and during the climax when all is said and done during Personal Fouls.  Heavy D, well we don’t know what Heavy D is doing in Wednesday night’s episode which also has the presence of True Blood actor Mechad Brooks.

This is Chris Bosh’s second TV stint as he was part of an episode of Entourage.

A Blast from the Past as ABC’s ‘Pan Am’ Takes Off (YouTube Videos)

September 26th, 2011 No comments

This show so perfectly is the ABC Television Network.  And a perfect fit for a Sunday night launch.  With the last season of Desperate Housewives coming up this year on ABC, the new show Pan Am fits so perfectly featuring light sex, drama, espionage and intrigue that should have the network jumping for joy should an audience follow.

With all of promotion behind this new series, last night’s pilot episode was a blast to watch, a good way to remember the way we used to fly the friendly skies back in the 1960′s.  Remember you used to be able to smoke cigarettes on planes.

Pan Am‘s launch was for real as the show was pretty entertaining and easy to watch.  You had to pay attention to every part of the episode and you may have to watch it online as with every premiere there’s a lot to catch on to and follow.  But there’s nothing you won’t like about this show.

ABC TV's Pan Am - Margot Robbie and Kelli Garner (Photo from ABC - PATRICK HARBRON)

Christina Ricci plays Maggie Ryan one of the flight attendants on Pan Am.  Along with Karine Vanasse as Colette Valois, Margo Robbie as Laura Cameron and Kelli Garner as Kate Cameron, the last two being sisters on board the all new Pan Am Clipper Majestic which took to the air back in 1963.

Pilots and co-pilot are Michael Mosely as Ted Vanderway and Mike Vogel played by Dean Lowery.  Once again a lot of eye candy going on here with this cast as I mentioned about ABC’s Charlie’s Angels.

Pan Am is a fun ride with a group of airline employees with a lot of personal problems and well detailed issued that bring in an international twist to the story line.  You’re not going to go overly gaga over this new series but probably the safest show on television and perfect for Sunday nights on ABC.
