‘Gil Grissom’ and William Petersen Returning to ‘CSI’

January 31st, 2011 No comments

OK so it’s only for one episode but it’s one episode more than what we’ve seen since he left the show two years ago.  ‘Inside TV’ is reporting that William Petersen, who created one of the strongest roles on television on ‘CSI,’ is bringing back his role as ‘Gil Grissom’ for one episode.  The date of the return is unknown according to the article.

Lawrence Fishburne and William Petersen

Lawrence Fishburne and William Petersen

Jorja Fox, who has been in several episodes since ‘Gil’ departed the lab at ‘CSI’ in Las Vegas, will be part of the episode as well.  Writers are introducing ‘Gil’s mother in to the series in February who really doesn’t like Jorja’s character ‘Sara Sidle’ and the fact that she married Gil.

Oh that’s gonna be fun.

Marlee Matlin is also appearing in that episode as well.  She’ll  play one of Grissom’s ex-girlfriends and the one mom really wanted Gil to marry.

Oh yeah this is going to be fun.  Is this soap opera or a crime drama?

Anyway Petersen’s return was planned by the writers when he left back in 2009.

While Charlie Sheen Rehabs at Home, CBS Wants More ‘Mike and Molly’ and ‘Rules’

January 31st, 2011 No comments

So two stories here.   One is a joke.  A real joke.  The other is a move that CBS has to make to keep their Monday night lineup strong during the month of February which is of real importance for all networks.

TMZ.com is reporting that Charlie Sheen is rehabbing in the same home where he promised several porn stars free rent if they all lived together in the same residence.  ‘Two and a Half Men’ producer Warner Brothers, CBS and Charlie Sheen came up with a plan to have an addiction expert and other professionals do the much needed intervention at his gated community in Los Angeles.

Whether drug sniffing dogs where used to roam through his home is unknown but I am recommending that be part of the intervention.

Billy Gardell and Reno Wilson from 'Mike and Molly' on CBS

Then the Hollywood Reporter says to get through February CBS is putting two more episodes of ‘Mike and Molly’ and ‘Rules of Engagement’ on the production calendar to keep their Monday night comedy schedule number one with viewers.  Great for CBS as these two shows are solid for the network.  But the loss of ‘Two and a Half Men’ during this Charlie Sheen saga is expected to cost the network and producers over $250,000,000.

Losing that kind of money is not going to look good on anyone’s resume.

Eva Longoria Parker No Longer a ‘Desperate’ Housewife

January 31st, 2011 No comments

Well that one didn’t take long.  But in the words of the philosopher ‘Judge Judy’ as she constantly tells women on her daytime television show, “you picked him.”

Well Eva Longoria Parker is now officially Eva Longoria after the finalization of their marriage.  The paperwork was all confirmed in Texas where they each signed a pre-nuptial agreement before they got married.  Now the ‘Desperate Housewives’ star and the San Antonio Spurs point guard go their separate ways months after Tony Parker stepped out with the wife of NBA analyst Brent Barry.

Eva Longoria and Tony Parker

Eva Longoria and Tony Parker

Once that romp became known to just about everyone from here to the planet Alpha Centauri, the two have been working on bringing their marriage to Dr. Phil or to Feinberg, Mindel, Brandt and Klein in Los Angeles to have more of their aired in public.

They both decided to do this fairly and amicably.  Both are relatively loaded, have no kids and for sure Brent Barry’s wife will not be invited to the separation party hosted by Eve at her Hollywood restaurant Beso.

I know basketball players.  And basketball players, and they won’t like me saying this, are not even close to being marriage material no matter whether they are with the Eva Longoria’s of the world or the girl next door.

Any woman who marries a basketball player, once again, “you picked him.”

CBS Sports, the NFLPA and Streakers…This is Pro Football (Videos)

January 31st, 2011 No comments

Well remember all of that hype we made about the NFL Players Association one time ad that was supposed to air in this past weekend’s Pro Bowl game on CBS?  The players union was responding to the league’s attempt to make them the bad guys in their very difficult negotiation for a new agreement between them by running a single ad in the game’s broadcast.

cbs_sports_logoThat ad never ran.  What was running was a couple of streakers on the football field that made this game interesting.  But the one time ad that beyond a single airing on CBS, it was ultimately rejected by the network late Friday according to Advertising Age Magazine.

CBS said it did not want to get in the middle of a labor squabble and the fact that this network carries NFL games sure had something to do with the rejection of the 60 second ad.  And part of the reason the NFLPA is ticked off is because the union has been complaining about the close relationship between the NFL and their TV networks.

The NFLPA must be kidding if they think Roger Goodell, the NFL Commissioner, did all he could to make sure this single advertisement did not run during the Pro Bowl.

That’s that story.  Below you will the the NFLPA ad.  If you remember, we told you it was awful.  But how about them streakers?  That video is below as well.  Players on the field during last night’s game got a kick out of their performance.

It was about the only thing the players were happy about last night.

‘TV By the Numbers’ Talks Shows Canceled, Certain to Be Canceled and on The Bubble

January 31st, 2011 No comments

We like these articles by Robert Seidman over at ‘TV By the Numbers.’  We here at RealTVCritics.com don’t guess about which shows will still on their respective networks.  We just talk about the new ones that are coming and when they get canceled.

But Robert always does a great job in analyzing what shows are staying and going.

David Lyons in 'The Cape'

David Lyons in 'The Cape'

He says one of the coolest shows on television is “likely to be canceled’ which is NBC’s ‘The Cape.’  There is something about that show that keeps me turning it on every week but I have always liked ‘superhero’ shows since I was a kid watching cartoons like ‘Mighty Mouse’ and ‘Tobor the 8th Man’ so I’m a bit jaded on ‘The Cape.’

Same with ‘No Ordinary Family’ on ABC.  Kinda ‘superhero’ thing here too but done very well. Seidman thinks that show will be dumped as well.  This show just can’t find its footing with an audience to tune in every week and that’s really too bad as this show is produced really well.  But like ‘The Cape,’ finding a regular user of the show is difficult.

But go to the story below and check out Robert Seidman’s full recap on what you will see and may not see this fall.

Bubble Watch: Many Shows Still on the Bubble, But ‘The Cape’ Isn’t One of Them

Last week, I tried an all-shows-in-one approach which also included shows already renewed and canceled. I got a lot of good feedback (thanks!)  in real-time and implemented some of it to improve readability.

This week you’ll notice more differences between the designations in the  Renew/Cancel Index.  For the most part, Bill is not prognosticating about what will happen in May, but rather what would happen by May if the season ended now.

I am taking more of a prognosticate now about what will happen in May approach. So at least for now you will see several shows that the R/C indices list as “likely” that will still be on the bubble in the Bubble Watch.   Most of the differences at this point have to do with little data for the R/C Index after resetting for the second half of the season. I’d guess in another month they’ll be 98% identical.

Only a couple of changes to the the table this week.  One is that I’ve downgraded Perfect Couples to likely to be canceled.  There’s only a couple of weeks of data, but it’s NBC’s weakest link in its Thursday night comedy lineup.  I’ve also downgraded The Cape to likely to be canceled. It keeps falling and even if manages to stabilize at last Monday’s level (a 1.6 adults 18-49 rating), it’s still likely to be canceled.  Its ratings need to go up a bit to get back on the bubble.

The first two weeks of Friday Fringe should make fans happy, but for now, it’s still on the bubble.

Edit: Forgot to mention that I changed Lie To Me from ‘certain to be canceled’ back to ‘likely to be canceled’ after the ratings gods mocked me.

‘The Fighter’ Mark Wahlberg Gets ‘Home Game’ Comedy on CBS

January 31st, 2011 No comments

Things just keep getting better for the guy who was the leader of the boy band ‘Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch’ and later as ‘New Kids on the Block’ back in the 80’s and 90’s.  Today he’s working behind the scenes on such hot shows as ‘Entourage’ and ‘In Treatment’ so coming up with a comedy for network television has to be next.

Mila Kunis and Mark Wahlberg at Comic Con International

Mila Kunis and Mark Wahlberg at Comic Con International

And he’s got an interesting piece of content for CBS.  Once again we’re talking sports and Mark Wahlberg is a big sports fan.  ‘Home Game’ was created around the life of former NFL player Mark Schlereth, currently an announcer at ESPN.

The plot is simple.  A former pro football guy is getting ready to retire and return home to his wife and kids.  Schlereth will be working behind the scenes on this project with his daughter Alexandria.

Drunk TV Exec Does Striptease at Restaurant, Randi Goldklank Out Again (Video)

January 30th, 2011 No comments

Every once in a while we put up a local TV story about a bonehead move by an employee.  We call it the “Bonehead Local TV Person of the Week” and Randi Goldklank is this week’s winner.

Randi Goldklank was the General Sales Manager of CBS affiliate WPEC Television in West Palm Beach, Florida.  A week ago today, she was dining (or should we say she was drinking her meal) at an upscale restaurant in Del Ray.

randy-goldklank1For some reason she felt the need to pull a Daryl Hannah in that scene in ‘Dancing at the Blue Iguana” by, and we quote from the police report, “touching herself, removing her top and dancing on a pole like a stripper.”

Oh my.

After her performance, she was asked to vacate the restaurant and instead of picking up her sticky single dollar bills off the floor, Goldklank was a typical drunk at a bar and said “no” wherein the management of the eatery dialed 9-1-1.

Now historically drunks at a bar, knowing that when those three digits are pushed on a communications device known as a telephone, bolt out the door and head to another location.

Not this drunk.

She was booked on the charge of disorderly conduct and fired from her job at WPEC.  We write this story because Randi needs to take a room next to Charlie Sheen as she was fired from a gig in Boston after a similar incident.  She was arrested for being drunk and unruly on a plane headed to Logan.

Randi Goldklank, you are our “Bonehead Local TV Person of the Week.”

And we added the Daryl Hannah striptease below because…well we don’t really know why.

Demi Lovato Back on Track After Rehab Stint

January 30th, 2011 No comments

Now Charlie Sheen has two rooms to choose at the rehab joint.  With Lindsay Lohan out her spot is open and we all were waiting for the return of Demi Lovato’s stint in rehab to end.

Demi LovatoDemi is now out and about spotted in Santa Monica, California.

According to TMZ.com Demi Lovato has returned to her home being released after three months under the watchful of Dr. Drew like professionals.  No word yet on when and if she will return to her Hollywood career after crashing and burning while on tour with her ex-boyfriend’s band the Jonas Brothers.  Demi got in to a grudge match with a dancer on that tour and put herself away to get help.

You gotta ask who is managing this 18 year old.  Or whether her parents have a clue.  Would you ever recommend to your daughter to go on tour with an ex-boyfriend?

We suggest she take a break.  And be 18 for a while.  She’s been in the business since she was 7 years old when she appeared in ‘Barney and Friends’ with her bud Selena Gomez.

Speaking of the NBA, Kevin Garnett Rings Channing Frye’s One and Two (Video)

January 30th, 2011 No comments

And we’re not talking about turntables one and two where you might see DJ David Morales or Armin Van Buuren mixing at a local dance club.

We’re talking about Channing Frye’s one and two that happen to reside below the waist.

They say he won’t be suspended.  Too bad the Phoenix Suns and the Boston Celtics aren’t in the same conference in the NBA cause this cheap shot by the Celts Kevin Garnett on the Suns Channing Frye was dirty, pure dirty.  And because the Suns are in the Western Conference and the Celtics are in the Eastern Conference, they won’t see much of each other for the rest of the season.

Too bad.  This could have been fun.

Kevin Garnett and Andrea Bargnani

Kevin Garnett and Andrea Bargnani

What’s amazing is how ESPN announcer Mark Jackson defends the dirty shot KG takes to Channing’s family jewels.  C’mon Mark that’s a dang foul!  When Frye goes for a three point shot, Kevin Garnett whacks the shooter in the groin and the fun then ensues.

Ouch! Or in Channing Frye’s words you &^%@#$%&#@!!!!

We figure if we have to do a story about TNT’s coverage of the NBA why not put in a video of a guy who may think twice about taking a shot over Kevin Garnett at some point in the future.

Oh yeah, Kobe and his Lakers take on the Celtics at Staples Center in Los Angeles tomorrow.  Kobe, watch out for your jock cause Kevin Garnett is in the house.  That game is live on ABC-TV as there is no football tomorrow so two games on the alphabet network.  Miami’s Heat takes on Kevin Durant and the Oklahoma City Thunder.  Two really solid games.
