Jeff Goldblum Out of ‘Criminal Intent’

August 7th, 2010 No comments

You really don’t know how to take him in his role on ‘Law & Order: Criminal Intent.’  Sometimes he’s brilliant while others he can be quite annoying and doesn’t seem to fit the role.  Nevertheless his part on the show is coming to an end after two seasons with ‘Intent’ as Goldblum has called it quits to return to the stage.  And the show looks like it’s headed in to its final season.

jeff-goldblumNellie Andreeva over at Deadline.com reports that USA Network and NBC looked at several scenarios including renewing the program for a couple of seasons but it looks like ‘Intent’ will get nothing more than an 8 episode order for its 10th arc which is no doubt its last.

And a lot on getting even the final season hinges on the availability of former performers returning including Vincent Donofrio, Jr.  This cancellation follows the loss of the original ‘Law & Order’ this year and the first season of ‘Law & Order: Los Angeles’ which hits NBC in September.

Sasha Grey, ‘Entourage’ Ending in 2011, Thank You Jesus

August 7th, 2010 No comments
Porn Performer Sasha Grey from 'Entourage'...

Porn Performer Sasha Grey from 'Entourage'...

It’s official.  HBO has made the call and the boys of ‘Entourage’ will end the series next year.  And it couldn’t be any sooner since the show pretty much sucks big time this year.  Well the show hasn’t had a lot of legs in a while and adding porn star Sasha Grey, who couldn’t act her way out of a Pornhub.com search, has about as much talent as my cat.

How much lower can you go by putting this crap in the show?  At least she turns out to be a bad influence on Adrien Grenier’s ‘Vincent Chase’ but there clearly no class left with her integration in what used to be a really good show.

Michael Lombardo made the announcement and says this season will finish up its current run and plans are to produce only 6 episodes next year to bring the show to its finale.  That’s about 6 episodes too much.  The show has met its end a while ago and watching it is just truly painful.

“The plan right now is to finish up this season.  We’ll do a shorter order for next season” Lombardo told the Television Critics Association.  The creator of the show says he wants to do a film based on the HBO series.  And Mark Wahlberg, the show’s executive producer is all game for a movie which he hopes will have the same success as the HBO series ‘Sex In The City.’

The show kind of lost its sizzle over the last season or so.  Definitely time for a movie.

‘CSI’ Guy William Petersen Coming Back…In A Movie

August 7th, 2010 No comments

Gil Grissom is back.  Back not as the guy solving crimes on ‘CSI’ but as a Vietnam vet turned school teacher in the independent film ‘Detachment.’  And he’s part of a pretty cool cast that includes the somewhat strange Lucy Liu, Adrien Brody, Jimmy Caan and Marcia Gay Harden who is currently vacation on USA Network’s ‘Royal Pains.’

Tony Kaye is the director of ‘Detachment’ and he’s got a rough touch background from his work on ‘American History X’ back in ’98.

William PetersonPetersen will play a history teacher and gets in to trouble when he shows a gay movie in his class in a drive to teach tolerance to his students.  This is his first television or screen role after 10 years on ‘CSI.’  He’s been working on stage at the Steppenwolf Theater in Chicago doing the play ‘The Endgame.’

NBC Sends Tom Brokaw to Host California Governor Debate

August 7th, 2010 No comments

This is a mess.  The California race for governor pits a very well financed, wealthy Meg Whitman on the Republican side against an old school, long time political guy Jerry Brown in one of the nastiest battles ever seen in the state.

And that’s the nicest thing anyone can say about the 2010 race for the Governor of California.

RealTVCritics.com is based in Los Angeles.  So we have to watch TV cause this is a TV blog and the commercials from both Whitman and Brown are so mean and dirty that you really want to vote for Kobe Bryant.

Unfortunately he’s not running.

On Tuesday October 12th, NBC legend Tom Brokaw will be at Dominican University of California’s Angelico Hall to host a debate between these two combatants.  He might want to bring some of Jerry Springer’s security guards to assist in keeping the Meg Whitman from taking a baseball bat and smacking Jerry Brown in his bald head.  In the meantime they might want to keep Brown from slapping Whitman around the stage as well.

Brokaw says “this election comes at a critical time for the citizens of California.”

Truly.  The state is broke.  Governor Arnold, who some thought of changing the constitution to let him run for President, couldn’t get a gig walking the current President’s dog.  And the parking authority is so aggressive in writing tickets in Los Angeles because this city is broke that they could be taking a baseball smack or a slap from the people living in this city.

In other words, this debate could be a lot of fun.

Harry Smith ‘Early Show’ Cooking Segment Includes His Finger

August 6th, 2010 No comments

Who says men can’t cook?  Apparently Harry Smith from the ‘CBS Early Show’ gave dudes all across America and the world a really bad rap when he was taken to a local New York city hospital after slicing in to his finger during a cooking segment during the show.

Harry Smith

Harry Smith

So Harry is attempting a Dexter Morgan or should we say a Charlie Sheen move on a zucchini during a bit with Katie Lee and sliced in to his finger.  Being the man that he truly is Harry grabs a towel, wraps his finger, whines a bit and then walks off the set.  Next thing has him headed over to Roosevelt Hospital to get attended by the father of CBS Medical Correspondent Jen Ashton.

No stitches required for Harry.  Erica Hill by the way jumped in to finish up the segment.

‘Breakthrough with Tony Robbins’ Broken by NBC

August 6th, 2010 No comments
Tony Robbins....

Tony Robbins....

Shocking, right?  Not really.  If you’re depressed, doubling up on anti-anxiety medication, miserable cause your spouse left you or standing on your chair in your basement with one end of a rope around a ceiling pipe and the other around your neck, this might have been the show for you.

But it’s summertime NBC.  People are out partying, sunning, swimming, having what is called a good time.  What’s that song Katy Perry has blasting on everyone’s Ipod.  ‘California Gurls.’  Yeah as Katy says “nothing comes close to the golden coast” or any coast this time of year.

Why would anyone watch ‘Breakthrough with Tony Robbins.  I say people who need this kind of help are weak and spineless.  It you need this dude to get you motivated for life you’ve really got problems.

Bottom line, ‘Breakthrough with Tony Robbins is officially gone after only two episodes with four left in the can.  ‘Minute to Win It’ repeats will take over its time slot.

Sir Paul McCartney, Beatles Seeking ‘Glee’

August 6th, 2010 No comments

Oh to be ‘Glee.’  Everybody wants some sort of immersion in this show on FOX that keeps getting more juice on a weekly basis leading up to this fall’s new season.  Now one of the famous names in the music business is looking to get the band that made the man on the series.

Ryan Murphy, creator of ‘Glee’ got a mix tape from Sir Paul McCartney, leader of one of the world’s most well known bands, to see if some of the Beatles hits could be used on the show.

Paul McCartney

Can you believe that?  Paul McCartney doing a mix tape?  A mix tape from Markus Shulz in Miami or Erick Morillo in Chicago, yeah we want to get a mix tape.  But from the Sir Paul McCartney?

“Of course we are going to do something” was Ryan’s response to the offering.  Guess what?  The Beatles are probably the only band and I do mean the only band that crosses over all age groups.  From 10 year olds to death, the Beatles, well are king.

When that inclusion will take place in ‘Glee’ no one knows but that will be a massive show!

Wanda De Jesus, Regina King Round Out ‘Law & Order: LA’

August 6th, 2010 No comments

law-and-order-la-logo

Dick Wolf, producer of ‘Law & Order’ the Los Angeles version, is a man with a pretty good eye.  And some solid eye candy along with solid performers have been added to the cast of the show which goes in to production on Monday.

Wanda De Jesus and Regina King join as Lieutenant and Deputy DA on ‘Law & Order: Los Angeles.’  Wanda did her thing last on ‘CSI: Miami’ for several episodes just this past year and is doing a summer run on the ABC soap ‘All My Children’ as Mayor Iris Blanco of Pine Valley home to the show.

Regina Hall comes on board Deputy District Attorney Eva Price.  She’s had a few hits here and there in movies and TV shows over the past 8 years but is better known for playing Coretta Lipps on 25 episodes of ‘Ally McBeal in the 2001-2002 run of that show.

Rosie O’Donnell Daytime Talk Show Coming to OWN

August 6th, 2010 No comments

Get ready.  She’s back.  And the constantly growing OWN TV is the place for Rosie O’Donnell’s new daytime talk show.  Talk had been flying around for months that Rosie wanted to get back in to the game in some capacity and now we know who won the battle for Rosie.

Rosie O'Donnell“We’re thrilled to have her a part of OWN,” said network CEO Christina Norman.  The new show will be produced by Rosie and will be a one hour format and OWN says that the show will be “fun, uplifting” with Rosie’s “playful and energetic style.” The show will be produced in New York.

This is Rosie’s return to daytime.  She hosted a show from ’96 to 2002.  And grabbed on to six consecutive Daytime Emmys for each year the show aired.  She replaced Meredith Vieira on ‘The View’ for a minute until she became a bit too opinionated and was dismissed from that show by ABC.

TNT’s ‘Dark Blue’ with Tricia Helfer Worth Every Second

August 5th, 2010 No comments

So I was a big fan of TNT’s solid drama ‘Dark Blue’ in season one.  Guess what?  Season two gets off to a fast start and the show has added the very calm and cool Tricia Helfer to the cast.  ‘Dark Blue’ is back and is as active as ever.  And some of action might be a bit too messy for you if Hannah Montana is on your DVR.

Dylan McDermott and Tricia Helfer

Dylan McDermott and Tricia Helfer

Dylan McDermott and Tricia Helfer make a good pair.  He’s with local cops and she has been transferred to work with him from the FBI.  Of course they end up bumpin’ nastys which was expected in the first episode.  But usually shows turns out to be tough to watch after such an incident.  But bottom line the ‘Dark Blue’ is still is strong in season two and adding Tricia to the mix freshens up the story-lines.

‘Burn Notice’ fans will recognize Tricia Helfer from her short stint as ‘Carla’ in that USA Network show.  She was one of Michael Westen’s nemeses for 8 episodes in the 2008-2009 season of that show.  And as ‘Number Six’ on the ‘Battlestar Gallactica’ series.
