Is she on the way to becoming the next Ryan Seacrest? Which would be good for her career and good for the needed audience losing ‘American Idol.’ Clear Channel Radio, the monstrous owner of multiple radio stations in hundreds of markets across the country, has hired ‘American Idol’ judge Kara DioGuardi to host weekend radio show on KBIG in Los Angeles.
KBIG or ’1043MYfm’ as it is called, is the sister station to Ryan Seacrest’ Kiss FM in L.A.where he does the morning show. Kara who has a solid background of writing and producing for the likes of Christina Aguilera, Hilary Duff and Meat Loaf, will do the 2PM to 6PM shift at the station beginning in June.
Someone on the air during the week with a full time shift at this station had better be working on their tapes and resumes.
Jennifer Garner made her bones here and we could see the return of ‘Alias’ back to ABC if the network has its way. E Online is reporting that J. J. Abrams, the guy who is the original series and is currently working on ’Undercovers’ for NBC, has been asked to put together a new version of the series.
It’s apparently just conversation at this point. But if there was a cancellation of a really good show that deserves a do over it is certainly ‘Alias.’ J.J. Abrams has a list of winners including ‘Lost’ and ’Felicity’ on the TV side of things and ‘Mission Impossible’ and ’Armageddon’ on the big screen.
We ran a story about ‘Undercovers’ but if you want to see the talent of Abrams check out this trailer for the show that looks pretty cool and hits NBC this fall.
Well the name of this show could behow the relationship is going between CBS and Warner Brothers, the producers for the possible mid-season replacement ‘Chaos.’
Here’s what Nellie Andreeva is reporting at Deadline.com and it’s getting a bit messy. CBS wants to give the show 8 episodes instead of the normal 13 so Warner says we want the 13.
Just shows you how much confidence CBS has in the new show.
But it’s a waste of money just to do 8 episodes as Warner can’t do a lot beyond just U.S. television and no international distribution with just a few episodes. So that seems to be the holdup and why there’s ‘Chaos’ between the two parties still apparently in negotiation.
‘Chaos’ by the way is a drama about the CIA which has Eric Close from ‘Without A Trace’ on board along with Freddy Rodriguez from ‘Ugly Betty.’
Does anyone really watch VH1 anymore? Well with a makeover in place over the last year with programs that would normally fit on more youth oriented networks, VH1 seems happy with three freshman shows that have gained a following with viewers.
‘Brandy and Ray J: A Family Business’ has been given another year on VH1. So have the romantic comedy ‘Chilli’ and the reality show ‘Basketball Wives.’
This is a smart move for VH1 but limited in promotional exposure for any of these shows. Some of us forgot they were on the air and VH1 would do best to try to put up a few bucks to let people know that these shows exist.
‘Brandy and Ray J’ make a lot of sense to promote a lot more. Both have solid exposure in the music world and only makes sense to market better.
‘Basketball’ and ‘Chilli’ wrap up their first seasons on May 30th while Brandy and Bro end on June 27th.
If you want to see the trailer for ABC’s new legal drama ‘The Whole Truth’ you can just search for our first story on the show. And Joely Richardson from ‘The Tudors’ and ‘Nip/Tuck’ was the prosecutor in that series and in the trailer but welcome to Hollywood as changes come rapidly in the TV business.
Try to keep up.
Maura Tierney was originally going to be in NBC’s ‘Parenthood’ but had to back out of that role to undergo treatment for breast cancer. Lauren Graham took that role and has done an absolutely fantastic job as single mom Sarah Braverman as that show heads to renewal for its second season.
Maura Tierney and Denis Leary in 'Rescue Me'
Maura comes back and is now listed at a breast cancer survivor and like most wants to get right back to work. She re-ups for her role on the last couple of seasons of ‘Rescue Me’ on FX.
Joely Richardson is then cast in ‘The Whole Truth’ opposite former ‘Numb3rs’ FBI guy Rob Morrow and then has to pull out of that show citing personal reasons. Joely lost her aunt Lynn Redgrave recently and is the sister of Natasha Richardson who passed away after a skiing accident. She’s decided to spend more time with her family and return to front for cameras at a later date.
You can bet they will be lined up for Joely Richardson when she says she’s ready.
So producers need a new prosecutor and that looks to be the role Maura will fill.
As ‘Hannah Montana’ fades toward oblivion, the all new and re-branded Miley Cyrus is underway as she gets her first television network special this summer on ABC.
Teen glam Miley Cyrus gets big time exposure for her new album by hosting a special on the network on June 18th. This TV event takes place just days before the release of her new CD ‘Can’t Be Tamed’ set to drop in stores on June 22nd.
The special is called ‘Miley Cyrus: Live From London’ and will feature part of her sold out concert from that city at the O2 Arena. There’s going to be a deluxe version of the CD that will include parts of the live concert.
So get your credit cards ready. This one will be a huge seller for Miley who is not yet 18 years old.
We held hope. Fans of both shows kept their fingers, eyes, legs and toes crossed hoping for a miracle for both ‘Ghost Whisperer’ and ‘Law & Order’ but two networks rumored to have wanted both have officially said no.
ABC was in the running to grab on to Jennifer Love Hewitt’s Friday night drama which we believe would have been perfect for the female viewers now flocking to ABC. But production costs and more likely low ratings combined to fizzle the flame of that possibility. With ABC eyeing a lot of reality shows you can guarantee the same ratings for them versus ‘Whisperer’ so see you later Jennifer.
TNT was thinking about taking on the long running ‘Law & Order’ but decided as well to let that show head in to the television history books tied with the perennial ‘Gunsmoke’ for the longest time on network television at 20 years.
Just shows you how broke California really is as a Santa Monica parking enforcement officer tickets automobiles during a live shot on KTLA television.
Some say she was just doing her job. Hey there was no money in the meter right? But with broke down, financially strapped cities all over California, now devious in there ways of getting overly aggressive parking authorities to downright screw their citizens by writing unnecessary parking tickets, what you will see here is classic live TV.
KTLA’s Gayle Anderson was doing a live shot on the best road trip cars near the beach in Santa Monica and up pops this meter maid who steps right in to the picture to start writing tickets on the cars being featured in the report.
You gotta watch this. Absolutely great live TV and don’t ever talk about how bad the Philadelphia Parking Authority is when featured in ‘Parking Wars’ on A&E.
"Goodbye Simon" says Paula Abdul at 'Idol' Finale...
Lee DeWyze wins ‘American Idol’ and will be appearing next week on ‘The Today Show’ and, well, who cares. ‘American Idol’ has lost Paula Abdul and now Simon Cowell in the midst of an audience decline from year to year and it will be all about Simon’s replacement this summer for FOX.
The number of viewers is down close to year one of the show. And many including Simon Cowell attribute that to the loss of Paula Abdul who is headed over to the new CBS dance show as judge and show boss.
So now, with Simon and Paula gone, is ‘Idol’ headed for more decline?
Hey don’t fret. What does fret really mean? Oh, anyway 24 million people watched the finale and guess what there are many shows on many other networks that would like to have 24 million people watching. But the real watch will be the PR rush to build up the show as they replace Simon Cowell.
‘The Guiding Light’ shines no more, ‘As the World Turns’ stops spinning and ‘Days of Our Lives’ has run out of life on daytime television. And SOAPnet was the place soap fans could catch reruns and updates on their favorite shows past and present.
The people who own SOAPnet read the news about the decline of the soap opera genre and have decided to kill off the cable network in 2012. SOAPnet will go away and the network will turn itself in to Disney Junior.
Disney Junior will be the full time operation of ‘Playhouse Disney’ which you can find now on the Disney Channel. So that spinoff will be a 24 hour channel targeted to kids between 2 and 7 years of age.
